In various cases healing of apical periodontitis after root canal treatment may not succeed. Thereby it is irrespective, whether a treatment of that tooth is inadequate or even apparently adequate. These failures can have a multiple causes. The intraradicular infection is the crucial etiological factor of posttreatment apical periodontitis. The root canal retreatment of a tooth with posttreatment apical periodontitis will be shown in the article.
