The article examines a topical issue: the prevention of crime committed in the Czech Republic against senior citizens. It aims to describe: (1) how aware senior citizens are of the options available to prevent crime; (2) from what sources they obtained this information; and (3) how sufficient they judge this information to be. A semistructured questionnaire was distributed in October 2016 among those attending the University of the Third Age at Masaryk University in Brno. A total of 92 forms were returned, the analysis of which showed that most respondents had encountered information about crime against senior citizens, and that the bulk of this information was obtained from the media and from peers (friends etc.). The information was concerned with particular types of crime against senior citizens and tended not to involve prevention, i.e. how senior citizens might act to avoid crime. Respondents viewed the information as insufficient, with specific advice on preventive behaviour noticeably absent. On the basis of these findings the authors propose that prevention measures should be designed to cater for the specific characteristics of the various groups of senior citizens.

Cílem příspěvku je seznámit s vývojem násilných událostí u VS ZZS HMP při kontaktu s násilnými pacienty v letech 2004 až 2014. Problematika násilí v prostředí ZZS není prioritou všech ZZS v ČR. ZZS HMP je v tomto ohledu výjimkou. Na základě uvedených informací lze souhrnně konstatovat, že ZZ a řidiči vozidel ZZS HMP jsou vystaveni při reálném provozu nejčastěji násilí verbální¬mu (přes 80 % zaměstnanců 1x/měsíc). S fyzickým násilím přijde do kontaktu cca 80 % pracovníků 1x za rok. Ukázalo se, že mo¬nitoring násilí přináší nejen vhled do problematiky, ale má vliv na prevenci, zejména výstupy z hloubkových rozhovorů. Výsledná minimalizace konfliktů a násilí v reálném provozu je příkladem dobré praxe pro všechna ostatní pracoviště, která mají problémy s násilím při vzájemném kontaktu zaměstnanců a jejich pacientů.

The aim of this paper is to present a development of violent incidents in the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) through contact with violent patients in Prague between 2004 and 2014. The issue of violence in an EMS setting has not been a priority for all the EMS in the Czech Republic. Prague's EMS, in this regard, is an exception. On the basis of our results we can clearly state that during real situations, the paramedics and medical drivers of EMS Prague are most often exposed to verbal violence (80 % of staff per month). Approximately 80 % of staff is exposed to physical violence once a year. It has emerged that the monitoring of this issue has not only brought about insight into this topic, but it also had an impact on prevention, in particular the outputs from in-depth interviews. The resulting minimisation of violent incidents and conflicts in real situations is an example of good practice for all other EMS units that have problems with violence through mutual contact between paramedics and their patients.
