V práci je uveden historický přehled vývoje diagnostiky a chirurgické léčby výhřezů meziobratlových plotének. Autor vychází jednak z rešerše angloamerické literatury, kterou měl možnost získat v Univerzitní knihovně v Curychu během své odborné stáže, a jednak studiem českých a slovenských pramenů. Je zdůrazněn historický přínos vynikajícího Českého chirurga prof. MUDr. Jana Bedrny z Hradce Králové.
The article brings the historical survey of evolution of diagnostic procedures and surgical treatment of protruded intervertebral disks. The author comes out partly from the retrieval of English and American literature, which he had chance to obtain from the University library during his study stay in Zurich, partly from the study of Czech and Slovak sources. Historical contribution of the outstanding Czech surgeon, prof. Jan Bedrna, M. D., from Hradec Králové is emphasized.
