Infekce močových cest jsou považovány za nejčastější bakteriální infekce. Infekční onemocnění horních močových cest zahrnuje pyelonefritidu akutní a chronickou, xantogranulomatózní pyelonefritidu, nekrotizující papilitidu, absces ledvin a infekční litiázu. K infekcím dolních močových cest řadíme cystitidu, uretritidu, prostatitidu, epididymitidu, orchitidu a balanopostitidu. Při léčení močových infekcí je zásadní správná volba taktiky léčení. Infekce horních močových cest vyžadují baktericidní, netoxická, k ledvinám šetrná antibiotika. Léčení infekcí dolních močových cest je zaměřeno především proti vzniku chronických onemocnění.

Urinary tract infections are considered the most frequent bacterial infections. Infections of the upper urinary tract include acute and chronic pyelonephritis, xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis, necrotizing renal papillitis, renal abscess and infectious lithiasis. The lower urinary tract infections include cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis and balanoposthitis. The treatment of urinary infections requires the appropriate therapeutic approach. The upper urinary tract infections require non-toxic antibiotics which are gentle to the kidneys. The treatment of lower urinary tract is focused on the prevention of chronic maladies.
