Obstrukce dolních dýchacích cest je charakteristická pro poněkud nesourodou skupinu onemocnění. Základem je porucha dechové funkce ve smyslu ztíženého výdechu na podkladě zúžení bronchů a bronchiolů. Příčinou mohou být akutní zánětlivá onemocnění, chronické onemocnění typu bronchiálního astmatu, ale i nezánětlivé mechanické zúžení dýchacích cest, například při aspiraci. Léčba onemocnění je zaměřena na odstranění příčiny obstrukce. Je využíváno léčebných přípravků k odstranění sekretu, zmenšení otoku sliznic, odstranění spasmu svaloviny bronchů. U mechanické překážky je nutné její odstranění cíleným odsátím případně extrakcí cizího tělesa. Průběh onemocnění nezřídka ohrožuje život postiženého a vyžádá si rychlou účinnou léčbu včetně léčby resuscitační.

Lower airways obstruction is a characteristic feature in a rather disparate group of diseases. It is based on disorder of breathing function in the meaning of difficult expirium due to constriction of bronchi and bronchioli. Acute infectious affection, chronic disease of asthma bronchiale type and also noninfectious mechanic constriction could be a reason for this disease. Treatment is addressed to the removal of the cause of bronchi constriction. Medicaments for elimination of the mucous secreta, reduction of bronchus mucosa swelling and abolition of bronchus muscle spasm are used. If mechanical resistance is present, goal-directed aspiration or extraction of this foreign body would be necessary. Disease course can be life-threatening frequently and rapid effective treatment including intensive care is essential.
