Cílem textu je přinést přehled informací o užívání alkoholu mezi studenty vysokých škol. V úvodní části se autoři zaměřují na prevalenci užívání v zahraničí a v České republice. Typickým vzorcem užívání alkoholu je mezi studenty tzv. binge drinking, kterému je věnována další kapitola. Jsou uvedeny údaje o prevalenci binge drinking mezi studenty v zahraničí, rizikové faktory tohoto způsobu užívání, a to jak pro samotné uživatele, tak pro ostatní studenty. Jsou zde také shrnuty charakteristiky studentů užívajících alkohol tímto způsobem. Část textu je věnována tématu motivace ke konzumaci alkoholu a vychází z výzkumů zaměřených přímo na populaci studentů. Je zde poukázáno na skutečnost, že klasické motivační modely nepopisují problematiku užívání studentů dostatečně výstižně, neboť nezahrnují některá specifika jejich života, jako například sociální prostředí vysokoškolských kolejí atp.

The main purpose of the article is to provide the reader with an overview of alcohol use among college and university students. Data about the prevalence of use abroad and in the Czech Republic are given in the first part of the article. A typical pattern of alcohol use among college and university students is binge drinking. Information is given to the Czech reader about the prevalence and risk factors of binge drinking and characteristics of a binge drinker. One part of the article focuses on motivational models of alcohol drinking among students. It is shown that the universal models are not sufficient in describing the students’ motivational dynamics, since these do not usually include the typical aspects of students’ lives, such as the social environment of students’ dormitories. Information about intervention techniques put into practice abroad is given in the final part of the article.
