Prevalence diabetes mellitus 2. typu celosvětově stále narůstá a souvisí především se světovou epidemií obezity. Obezita je kromě diabetu rizikovým faktorem řady dalších onemocnění. Bariatrická chirurgie představuje velmi účinnou metodu nejen snižující hmotnost, ale také metodu k ovlivnění přidružených komorbidit. Velká část pacientů s diabetes mellitus 2. typu není uspokojivě kompenzována ani přes léčbu moderními antidiabetiky a pro takové pacienty představuje bariatrická chirurgie efektivní prostředek zlepšující jejich kompenzaci případně vedoucí až v jeho remisi. Cílem článku je přiblížit metody bariatrické chirurgie a jejich metabolické účinky.

The growing global prevalence of type 2 diabetes is steadily increasing primarily due to a close connection with the obesity epidemic. Obesity is a risk factor in various other illnesses not just diabetes. Bariatric surgery is an efficient method for weight loss and improvement of obesity-related comorbidities. Many of the patients with type 2 diabetes have poor glycemic control even with modern antidiabetic treatment. Bariatric surgery is an effective strategy leading to optimal glucose control and often even to complete remission of diabetes. The aim of this article is to describe the methods of bariatric surgery and their metabolic effects.
