Autorky popisují nejčastější klinický projev nákazy vyvolané virem herpes simplex v dětském věku, tj. akutní herpetickou gingivostomatitidu a kladou důraz na její specifickou antivirovou terapii acyklovirem. Uvádějí vlastní zkušenosti získané u 583 dětí s akutní herpetickou gingivostomatitidou, které léčily acyklovirem.

The most frequently encountered clinical manifestation of herpesvirus infection in children, i.e. acute herpetic gingivostomatitis is described. Therapy with acyclovir led to rapid improvement which became apparent within 2 days as fever receded and no new aphthae appeared in the oral mucosa. In none of our 583 children treated for acute herpetic gingivostomatitis was there a visceral dissemination of herpes simplex virus and there was no sign of toxic side effects due to therapy. Our clinical experience confirms data in the literature that acyclovir is the drug of choice in patients suffering serious herpetic infections.
