Chlamydiové infekce představují poměrně rozsáhlou skupinu onemocnění, které mohou přecházet do chronicity. Jde o choroby respiračního systému i choroby mimorespirační postihující například oko, klouby či centrální nervový systém (CNS). V poslední době v souvislosti s tímto typem infekce přitahuje pozornost onemocnění urogenitálního systému. Jedná se prakticky o jednu z nejčastěji evidovaných infekcí přenosnou sexuálním stykem (STD). Pokud tato onemocnění klasifikujeme podle původců, pak se chlamydiové infekce urogenitálního traktu ocitají ve velké skupině bakteriálních infekcí spolu s mykoplazmatickými infekcemi, bakteriálními vaginózami či nespecifickými genitálními infekcemi způsobenými stafylokoky, streptokoky, enterokoky a korynebakteriemi. Infekce se šíří kapénkami nebo přímo kontaktem mezi lidmi. Důležitá je přesná laboratorní i klinická diagnostika. Léčba spočívá v podání makrolidů, tetracyklinů či chinolonů vyšších generací.
Chlamydial infections represent a large group of diseases, which can go to chronicity. They affects the respiratory system as well as the organs, e.g. the eye, joints or central nervous system (CNS). Recently in connection with this type of infection diseases of urogenital system attracts attention. This is practically one of the most commonly registered infections transmitted by sexual intercourse (STI). If these diseases will be considered according to the agents, then the urogenital tract chlamydial infection will find themselves in a large group of bacterial infections together with mycoplazmatic problems, bacterial vaginoses or nonspecific infections due to staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci and korynebacterias. The infection is spread via droplets or direct contact between people. The importance of accurate laboratory and clinical diagnostics is well known. Treatment consists in the administration of macrolides, tetracyklines or chinolons.

Chlamydie jsou obligátní intracelulární bakteriální patogeny s unikátním dvojfázovým životním cyklem. Chlamydia trachomatis je hlavní příčinou preventabilní slepoty (trachom) u dětí a okulogenitálních nemocí u dospělých. Chlamydophila pneumoniae je příčinou onemocnění respiračního traktu. Diagnostika vyžaduje laboratorní potvrzení, nejlépe detekcí chlamydiálních nukleových kyselin. Sérologické testy mají limitovanou výpovědní hodnotu. Částečně mohou být prospěšné při čtyřnásobném nárůstu titru protilátek při akutní primoinfekci. Chlamydie jsou citlivé k antibiotikům, která zasahují DNA a proteosyntézu, včetně makrolidů, azalidů, speciálně azitromycinu, tetracyklinů a chinolonů. Dlouhodobá léčba chronických nemocí, jako jsou astma, ateroskleróza, není prospěšná. Neexistuje efektivní vakcína.
Chlamydiae are obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens with unique biphasic life cycle. Chlamydia trachomatis is a major cause of preventable blindness (trachoma) in children and oculogenital diseases in adults. Chlamydophila pneumoniae is an important cause of respiratory tract infection. Diagnosis requires laboratory tests, preferably those based on detection of chlamydial nucleic acid. Serological tests have limited predictive value. Serology can be particularly helpful only if a rising antibody titre can be demonstrated in acute versus convalescent sera. Chlamydiae are susceptible to antibiotics that affect DNA and protein synthesis, including macrolides, azalide, specifically azithromycin, tetracyklines, and chinolones. Long-term antibiotic treatment of chronic diseases, such as asthma, atherosclerosis, is unlikely show any benefit. There are no effective vaccines.
