According to current knowledge psychotherapy alone or in combination with pharmacotherapy is effective in the treatment of depressive disorder and represents an accessible possibility of increasing effectiveness of the treatment of depression. There is a great number of psychotherapeutic approaches and their theoretical perspectives and practical approaches to the treatment of depression differ. This article contributes to the transparency of the spectrum of psychotherapeutic approaches by description of gestalt therapy and its practical application in clinical practice. The description is supplemented by an overview of the evidence of efficiency.
