Slovenia is one of the youngest European Union members. As a part of accessing to European Union, substantial changes needed to be done in health and educational systems. These changes also affected midwifery education. In order to meet demanding need of European commissions new approaches have to be developed to prepare midwives of tomorrow, who will be able to meet those needs and provide safe evidence based midwifery and nursing . Problem based learning with scenarios -simulated learning experiences using real life scenarios are offered to the students, so they can explore and develop strategies to assist women and their families to meet their care health needs. Problem based learning is used as teaching and learning framework to encourage students exploring learning needs at their own pace. The journey of introducing PBL scenarios as method of learning and assessing to Slovenian midwifery and nursing students had just begun so it is impossible to draw firm conclusions on their efficacy in Slovenia. Abroad studies have shown that scenarios were found to be effective providing framework to meet the learning needs of the majority of the students.
