Léčba nekomplikovaného diabetika je založena na důsledně zpracované a správné diagnóze. Problematika této léčby je v článku probrána z pohledu praktického diabetologa. Stále považujeme za základní lék metformin, avšak účinek medikamentózní léčby je bez režimových a dietních opatření výrazně snížený. Postupně probereme další způsoby medikamentózní léčby, jejich výhody i kontroverze, včetně léčby inzulínem. Stručně uvedena je léčba inzulínem u diabetika 1. typu či geneticky podmíněných forem diabetu.

Treatment of an uncomplicated diabetic is based on a thoroughly processed and correct diagnosis. The issue of this treatment is discussed in the article from the perspective of a practical diabetologist. We still consider metformin to be the primary drug, but the effect of drug treatment is significantly reduced without regimen and dietary measures. Gradually, we will discuss other methods of drug treatment, their benefits and controversies, including insulin treatment. The treatment of insulin in type 1 diabetic or genetically related forms of diabetes is briefly mentioned.
