The six species of the soft-bodied elaterid genus Selasia Laporte (Agrypninae: Drilini) from the Palaearctic Region are reviewed: S. arabica Geisthardt, 2003 (Yemen, Oman, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), S. atriventris Pic, 1914 (India, Nepal), S. boruckae Kundrata, 2012 (Nepal), S. homhilia Geisthardt, 2003 (Yemen: Socotra), S. merkli Kundrata, 2012 (Pakistan), and S. socotrana Kundrata, 2012 (Yemen: Socotra). Selasia arabica and S. atriventris are recorded for the first time from Oman and Nepal, respectively. The variability in coloration of S. arabica is discussed. Selasia bleusei Olivier, 1913 from Rhodes is redescribed and transferred to Drilus Olivier, 1790 as D. bleusei (Olivier, 1913), comb. nov. A differential diagnosis is given and taxonomically important characters are figured. An identification key as well as data on the distributions, type depositories and bibliographic references of each Palaearctic Selasia species are provided.

The neotenic click-beetle genus Selasia Laporte, 1838 is distributed mainly in the tropical Africa, and only a few species are known from the Palaearctic and Oriental regions. Herein, I describe and figure two new Palaearctic species: Selasia nigrobrunnea sp. nov. from the western Nepal, and Selasia sabatinellii sp. nov. from Pakistan. Both species are compared with their Palaearctic congeners, and an updated identification key to Selasia species from the Palaearctic region is provided.
The species of genus Lacon Laporte, 1838 from the Levant are taxonomically revised. Currently, 18 species are known from the area covering the island of Cyprus and mainland from Hatay province of Turkey to Israel. Six species are described as new for science: Lacon mucheibensis sp. nov. (Israel), L. qatanensis sp. nov. (Syria), L. platiai sp. nov. (Jordan), L. safitensis sp. nov. (Syria), L. tafilensis sp. nov. (Jordan), and L. zenobiae sp. nov. (Lebanon, Syria). Lacon freidbergi Platia, 2010 is synonymized with L. lithophilus (Candèze, 1857), and L. kapleri Platia Schimmel, 1994 with L. graecus (Candèze, 1857). Lacon drusus (Marseul, 1870) is recorded for the first time from Israel. Lacon lithophilus is recorded for the first time from Israel and Jordan. Lacon graecus is removed from the fauna of Levant, because all earlier reports of this species from Lebanon and Syria were based on misidentifications. Figures of habitus and main diagnostic features are provided for all species and an identification key to the Lacon species of the Levant is given.
The species of the elaterid soft-bodied tribe Drilini from the Levant are reviewed. All known species are redescribed and Drilus nemethi sp. nov. is described. Drilus adustus (Chevrolat, 1854), comb. nov. and D. akbesianus (Fairmaire, 1895), comb. nov. are transferred from Malacogaster Bassi, 1834 to Drilus Olivier, 1790. Drilus posticus Schaufuss, 1867, syn. nov. is a junior subjective synonym of Drilus adustus (Chevrolat, 1854). All Levantine species are keyed and diagnostic characters are illustrated. Their distribution, morphological diversity and the statuses of type specimens of Drilus reitteri Bourgeois, 1908 and Cydistus reitteri Bourgeois, 1885 are discussed.

The genus Ludioctenus Fairmaire, 1893 hitherto included only L. cyprius (Baudi di Selve, 1871) from the eastern Mediterranean and L. pakistanicus Schimmel Tarnawski, 2012 from Pakistan. Here, we describe L. afghanicus sp. nov. from the Nuristan Province in eastern Afghanistan. The distribution and morphological diversity of Ludioctenus is discussed, main diagnostic characters for all species are figured, and an identification key to the species of this genus is provided. Female pregenital segments and genitalia are figured for the first time for Ludioctenus, and the systematic position of this genus and its relatives is discussed.

The neotenic elaterid genus Drilus Olivier, 1790 in Asia Minor is reviewed. Twelve species are recognized, of which seven are described as new: Drilus badius sp. nov., D. huijbregtsi sp. nov., D. mertliki sp. nov., D. robustus sp. nov., D. sanliurfensis sp. nov., D. teunisseni sp. nov., and D. turcicus sp. nov. All known species are listed with diagnoses, data on variability and distribution. A key to the males of Drilus species in Asia Minor is provided and information on prey of known larvae is summarized. Antennal morphology of Drilini females is briefly discussed.

Omalisidae, a species-poor family of elateroid beetles, are distributed mostly in the Mediterranean region. The morphology of females is modified due to neotenic development and the males share some traits with other neotenic lineages in Elateroidea, namely Drilini (Elateridae: Agrypninae) and Lyropaeinae (Lycidae). A molecular phylogeny was inferred from six omalisid species representing four genera and the previously published dataset of Elateroidea. The DNA based phylogeny suggests that small-bodied males, reduced pronotal carinae and missing elytral costae evolved independently in multiple elateroid lineages. The limits of Omalisidae are redefined and seven genera, i.e., Omalisus Geoffroy, 1762, Phaeopterus Costa, 1857, Thilmanus Gemminger, 1869, Euanoma Reitter, 1889, Pseudeuanoma Pic, 1901, Paradrilus Kiesenwetter, 1865 and Cimbrion Kazantsev, 2010, are currently placed in the family. Thilmaninae Kazantsev, 2005 and Paradrilus Kiesenwetter, 1865 are transferred from Drilini (Elateridae: Agrypninae) to Omalisidae and the Paradrilinae subfam. nov. is proposed. Paradrilus differs from other Omalisidae in prolonged cranium, wide robust prosternum with two apical processes and absent sharp edge of the pronotum. The morphology of Paradrilus is described in detail, illustrated and all taxa currently classified in Omalisidae are listed.

In a recent issue of Zootaxa, Kovalev et al. (2019) reported the description of a new drilid genus Drilorhinus Kovalev, Kirejtshuk et Shapovalov, 2019 and they discuss at length the relationships and systematic classification of the drilid lineage. Although they did not formally propose a new status for Drilidae Blanchard, 1845 [not Lacordaire, 1857, as cited in their study] in the sense of the Code (ICZN 1999), they in fact resurrected the traditional concept of Drilidae as a separate 'cantharoid' family and rejected Drilini in Elateridae: Agrypninae of Kundrata Bocak (2011). The authors strongly defended the historical classification of the genera Selasia Laporte, 1838, Malacogaster Bassi, 1834, Drilus Olivier, 1790, Drilorhinus, and putatively also their relatives (Kundrata et al. 2017), as a separate 'cantharoid' family in the sense proposed in 19th century and held until recently by some traditional morphologists (Blanchard 1845; Crowson 1955, 1972; Lawrence Newton 1982, 1995; Branham Wenzel 2003; Lawrence et al. 2011; Kazantsev 2013; Lawrence Ślipiński 2013; Lawrence 2016). Although no new data were presented or methodological flaws of earlier analyses identified by Kovalev et al., the authors argued that the present evidence is insufficient for the placement of the Drilini in Elateridae, Agrypninae. Unfortunately, they did not take into account recent molecular analyses suggesting multiple origins of soft-bodied elateroid families, i.e., the polyphyly of the historical cantharoid group of families, and the relationships of drilids and agrypnine click beetles (Bocakova et al. 2007; Hunt et al., 2007; Timmermans et al. 2010, 2016; Kundrata et al. 2014; McKenna et al. 2015; Bocak et al. 2016; Kusy et al. 2018a, b; Linard et al. 2018; Zhang et al. 2018). They only discussed a single molecular analysis by Kundrata Bocak (2011).
