Endometrial biopsies are important in the diagnostic workup of women who present with abnormal uterine bleeding or hereditary risk of endometrial cancer. In general, approximately 10% of all endometrial biopsies demonstrate endometrial (pre)malignancy that requires specific treatment. As the diagnostic evaluation of mostly benign cases results in a substantial workload for pathologists, artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted preselection of biopsies could optimize the workflow. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of AI-assisted diagnosis for endometrial biopsies (endometrial Pipelle biopsy computer-aided diagnosis), trained on daily-practice whole-slide images instead of highly selected images. Endometrial biopsies were classified into 6 clinically relevant categories defined as follows: nonrepresentative, normal, nonneoplastic, hyperplasia without atypia, hyperplasia with atypia, and malignant. The agreement among 15 pathologists, within these classifications, was evaluated in 91 endometrial biopsies. Next, an algorithm (trained on a total of 2819 endometrial biopsies) rated the same 91 cases, and we compared its performance using the pathologist's classification as the reference standard. The interrater reliability among pathologists was moderate with a mean Cohen's kappa of 0.51, whereas for a binary classification into benign vs (pre)malignant, the agreement was substantial with a mean Cohen's kappa of 0.66. The AI algorithm performed slightly worse for the 6 categories with a moderate Cohen's kappa of 0.43 but was comparable for the binary classification with a substantial Cohen's kappa of 0.65. AI-assisted diagnosis of endometrial biopsies was demonstrated to be feasible in discriminating between benign and (pre)malignant endometrial tissues, even when trained on unselected cases. Endometrial premalignancies remain challenging for both pathologists and AI algorithms. Future steps to improve reliability of the diagnosis are needed to achieve a more refined AI-assisted diagnostic solution for endometrial biopsies that covers both premalignant and malignant diagnoses.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates both offline and online bullying perpetration and victimization in association with problematic internet use (PIU) and problematic smartphone use (PSU), while also considering the related psychosocial difficulties. METHODS: A total of 3939 adolescents (49.4% boys, aged 13-15 years) from a representative sample of schools in Slovakia was obtained from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) project in 2018. Due to the lack of similar complex research and the expected mutual associations among the constructs, we compared exploratory network models that provided separate estimates for boys and girls. RESULTS: The constructs formed similarly clustered networks for both genders, with a few notable differences. Unlike PIU, PSU was not associated with bullying experiences in boys or girls; however, PSU and PIU were partially related in girls. Bullying experiences formed a strong cluster in both networks. Two strong bridges were identified, and they are potential candidates for intervention in both boys and girls: first, traditional bullying victimization connected the cluster of bullying experiences to psychosocial difficulties; and, second, frequently missing sleep or meals due to internet use (behavioral salience) that is connected to the bullying cluster with PIU. CONCLUSIONS: The findings offer an indication for the preventive and interventive work of practitioners who deal with adolescents, as well as complex gender comparisons for the mutual relations of problematic internet and smartphone use, bullying experiences, and the psychosocial difficulties of youth. This study provides evidence that problematic digital media can play a role in bullying experiences irrespective of whether bullying happens offline or online.

Point-of-care and bedside tests are analytical devices suitable for a growing role in the current healthcare system and provide the opportunity to achieve an exact diagnosis by an untrained person and in various conditions and sites where it is necessary. Using a digital camera integrated into a well-accessible device like a smartphone brings a new way in which a colorimetric point-of-care diagnostic test can provide unbiased data. This review summarizes basic facts about the colorimetric point-of-care tests, principles of how to use a portable device with a camera in the assay, applications of digital cameras for the current tests, and new devices described in the recent papers. An overview of the recent literature and a discussion of recent developments and future trends are provided.

Background: Selective attention and visuospatial orienting attention are important cognitive functions for children's development. Testing based on touch-based mobile technology platforms is becoming increasingly widespread in psychological assessment. Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the newly developed touchscreen tablet-based test of selective and orienting attention (t-SOA test) in typical developing children aged 7-10 years. Methods: Two age groups of children, the group7-8 (7-8 years, 9 girls, 10 boys) and the group9-10 (9-10 years, 9 girls, 9 boys), performed the t-SOA test on a tablet (Android operating system) and a stylus, as well as the Reaction test of selective attention of the Vienna Test System (RT4-VTS). The criterion validity of the t-SOA test was verified by the RT4-VTS, and the construct validity via an analysis of the effect of age on the results of the t-SOA test. The reliability of the t-SOA test was assessed through internal consistency. Results: The internal consistency of the response time (RT) to the target stimulus was demonstrated to be excellent, Cronbach's α = .944. The mixed linear model with two factors - the central and the spatial (peripheral) cues, showed no significant effect on mean RT. Mean RT, median RT, and the coefficient of variation for RTs (CVRT) in the t-SOA test correlated significantly with analogous test scores of the RT4-VTS test, but not in the case of the number of correct responses, omissions, and commissions. A statistically significant effect of the age group was found for mean RT, median RTs, CVRT, and omission of the t-SOA test. Conclusions: The study demonstrated that the newly constructed t- SOA test may be a valid and reliable tool for assessing the level of visual selective attention of children during middle childhood. The study supported the current suggestion that the assessment of cognitive functions with a touchscreen tablet and a digital stylus is feasible and accepted by school-age children.

Kontroly kvality měřidel aktivity jsou nedílnou součástí rutinní praxe na pracovištích nukleární medicíny. Technický způsob jejich provádění je do jisté míry variabilní. Námi navržený způsob vychází z požadavků klinické praxe a z potřeby způsob provádění kontrol co nejvíce zefektivnit. Popisované technické řešení umožňuje přímé vyčtení dat z měřiče aktivity do počítače (tabletu, chytrého telefonu a podobně) a jejich následné okamžité zpracování.
Quality control tests of dose calibrators are an integral part of routine practice in all departments of nuclear medicine. They should be carried out regularly to ensure their optimum performance at all times and to determine the rate and extend of any deterioration in time. However, when there is no additional software purchased for these particular purposes, data collecting, and subsequent processing could sometimes be a tedious and time-consuming process. Based on the requirements of clinical practice an efficient method was developed to facilitate data handling. The described technical solution enables direct reading of data from the dose calibrator to a computer (tablet, smartphone, etc.) and their subsequent immediate processing. A conversion unit using Bluetooth technology was designed for communication between the measuring device and the computer. Communication with the ionization chamber is controlled by a macro written in VBA (Visual basic for applications). The data loaded into Excel are subsequently processed and evaluated according to the user's requirements. The presented solution is cheap and easy to modify, its big advantage is the compatibility with MS Office, which is currently easily accessible to all users at nuclear medicine workplaces.

Přístrojová technika označovaná souhrnně slovem nositelná elektronika (wearables) má v sobě vestavěná čidla (senzory) a dokáže měřit tělesnou aktivitu, srdeční frekvenci a rytmus i hodnoty glykemie a elektrolytů. U jedinců s rizikem mohou být nositelná elektronika a další přístroje užitečné, protože umožňují časně odhalit fibrilace síní nebo subklinická stadia kardiovaskulárních onemocnění, ovlivňovat svůj zdravotní stav i svoje kardiovaskulární onemocnění, jako jsou hypertenze a srdeční selhání, i upravovat vlastní životosprávu. Údaje o zdraví lze získávat z nepřeberného množství zdrojů, konkrétně z klinického i laboratorního vyšetření, z vyšetření zobrazovacími metodami, z genetických profilů, z nositelné elektroniky, implantabilních přístrojů, různých měření spouštěných samotným pacientem, i ze sociálních sítí a zdrojů z vnějšího prostředí. I když se potřeby těchto skupin a stran mohou lišit, mají i mnoho společného včetně přání zachovávat soukromý charakter a zabezpečení údajů, potřebu srozumitelných, důvěryhodných a transparentních systémů, standardizovaných procesů hodnocení systémů regulace a úhrad a dokonalejších způsobů rychlého posouzení hodnoty údajů.
Digital technology is now an integral part of medicine. Tools for detecting, screening, diagnosis, and monitoring health-related parameters have improved patient care and enabled individuals to identify issues leading to better management of their own health. Wearable technologies have integrated sensors and can measure physical activity, heart rate and rhythm, and glucose and electrolytes. For individuals at risk, wear- ables or other devices may be useful for early detection of atrial fibrillation or sub-clinical states of cardiovascular disease, disease management of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and heart failure, and lifestyle modification. Health data are available from a multitude of sources, namely clinical, laboratory and imaging data, genetic profiles, wearables, implantable devices, patient-generated measurements, and social and environmental data. Artificial intelligence is needed to efficiently extract value from this constantly increasing volume and variety of data and to help in its interpretation. Indeed, it is not the acquisition of digital information, but rather the smart handling and analysis that is challenging. There are multiple stakeholder groups involved in the development and effective implementation of digital tools. While the needs of these groups may vary, they also have many commonalities, including the following: a desire for data privacy and security; the need for understandable, trustworthy, and transparent systems; standardized processes for regulatory and reimbursement assessments; and better ways of rapidly assessing value.
