Asthma bronchiale je nejčastější chronické onemocnění u dětí a jedno z nejčastějších chronických onemocnění u dospělých. Jeho prevalence celosvětově stále narůstá. Článek se zabývá moderním přístupem k léčbě astmatu u dospělých s cílem dosažení plné kontroly nemoci. V dlouhodobé terapii se stala protizánětlivá léčba reprezentovaná inhalačními kortikosteroidy základním článkem v péči o astmatika. U středně těžkých a těžkých forem se pak plně uplatňuje kombinovaná léčba, zejména s využitím dlouhodobých β2-sympatomimetik.

Asthma bronchiale is the most frequent chronic disease in children and one of the most frequent chronic diseases in adults. The prevalence of this disease is increasing all over the world. The paper deals with modern therapeutical approaches in adults, the aim of which is to achieve a full control of the disease. In the long-term therapy an inflammatory treatment, represented by inhalation corticosteroids, has become the fundamental way of bronchial asthma patients care. In moderate and severe cases of the disease a combined treatment specifically with the use of long-term β 2 -sympathicomimetics is fully applicable.
