Aim: The aim of the contribution is summarisation of the experience with nursing diagnosis validation in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic and presentation of main results of the project Problems of Nursing Diagnoses – Theoretical Starting Points and Application in Nursing Practice APVV SK-CZ-0151-09, MŠMT MEB 0810029 that was carried out in 2010 and 2011. Method and sample: For validation of selected nursing diagnoses we decided to use Fehring’s Diagnostic Content Validity Model – DCV model. The research file consisted of two groups of nurses – experts: the file of Slovak nurses and the file of Czech ones. To create criteria for the selection of experts we used the panel discussion method. Results: Validation of selected nursing diagnoses showed that the file of Slovak and Czech nurses – experts did not find all the defining features from NANDA-I equally significant for their establishment. Differences in the identification of defining features in experts from various countries are nothing extraordinary for this type of studies. This can be influenced by different range of curriculum devoted to this topic in the education of nurses, the amount of experience with given problem as well as diverse understanding of nursing diagnosis concept. Conclusions: Conclusions resulting from our study point out to a more intensive need for consolidation of results of multiethnic validation studies including their subsequent clinical validation. The results taken from validation study comparison should be reflected in NANDA-I taxonomy revision.
