Esenciální arteriální hypertenze není nemoc, která by nemocné nějak významně negativně ovlivňovala v jejich každodenních aktivitách. Alespoň většinou. Přesto však zásadní měrou negativně ovlivňuje kardiovaskulární morbiditu i mortalitu. Zřejmá je přitom souvislost se stupněm hypertenze, věkem nemocného a samozřejmě i přidruženými chorobami a kardiovaskulárními rizikovými faktory. Cílem léčby hypertonika tak proto není pouze snažit se dosáhnout optimální redukce krevního tlaku, nýbrž v širším pohledu snížit riziko právě uvedených konsekvencí, tj. omezit nemocnost a snížit úmrtnost. V rámci farmakoterapie hypertenze lze využít i látky urapidilu, jejíž stručný popis je předmětem tohoto článku.

The antihypertensive drug urapidil can also be used in pharmacotherapy, the brief description of which is the subject of this article.
