Morel's disease is a form of abscessing lymphadenitis of sheep and goats caused by Staphylococcus aureus subspecies anaerobius. In Europe and Africa, the disease is linked to S. aureus of multilocus sequence type 1464. In an outbreak recorded in 2015 in a flock of 530 animals in the district of Nymburk, Czech Republic, Europe, the causative agent was cultured and subsequently confirmed by Maldi-TOF. Neither antibiotic therapy nor surgical interventions met any success, although the strain isolated was found to be sensitive to antibiotics used. Vaccination and revaccination with inactivated autogenous vaccine administered subcutaneously was relatively successful. Subsequent multilocus sequence typing revealed the presence of new S. aureus sequence type 3756, different from 1464 in three out of seven genes typed. The isolate thus represents a new sequence type of Staphylococcus aureus ssp. anaerobius which should be considered as a causative agent of Morel's disease.

A group of 46 patients with acne vulgaris were prescribed clindamycin in combination with a vaccination therapy using a staphylococci antigenic complex (Polystafana; Sevapharma, Czechia). Acne papulopustulosa was diagnosed in 36 patients and acne indurata in 10 patients. The clinical effect of clindamycin and Polystafana was determined on the basis of the regression of the inflammatory manifestation of acne: regression by 0-30% was considered unsuccessful, by 30-80% satisfactory, and above 80% excellent; the immunomodulation effect of the treatment was evaluated in parallel. The clinical effect was excellent in 21 patients with acne papulopustulosa and in 6 with acne indurata; it was accompanied by pronounced immunomodulation effect as both cellular and humoral immunity was also tended to return to normal values. A satisfactory clinical effect was observed in 15 patients with acne papulopustulosa, whose cellular immunity component was also stimulated. Only 4 patients with acne indurata failed to respond successfully. These were the patients who showed a pronounced deficit of the cellular immunity component persisting even after the treatment. The administration of clindamycin in combination with Polystafana vaccination can be recommended as an effective means for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages of guinea pigs injected subcutaneously with bacterial vaccines was found to be increased. The phagocytic index remained unchanged or was decreased. In addition, a decreased candidacidal activity was observed. Metabolic activation of macrophages, measured by the INT test, was inhibited in unstimulated cells while cells stimulated with zymosan or opsonized zymosan exhibited higher values of the INT test as compared with control animals. After injection of vaccines the number of peritoneal macrophages was increased, but the spleen mass decreased.

The study is concerned with the effect of repeated administration of staphylococcal immunopreparations on the development of a suppurative-inflammatory focus in the foot of the mouse. Subcutaneous administration of large doses of the antigenic complex of the staphylococcus (ACS) obtained by aqueous extraction, antiphagin and native anatoxin failed to induce an increase in sensitivity to staphylococcus. In some cases, the extent of development of the suppurative-inflammatory focus in the mice which had been given these preparations was less than in the control; this is suggestive of their protective effect. When comparing, on this model, the ACS preparations and corpuscular vaccine produced from poorly and highly virulent strains, we observed a more pronounced protective effect in the preparations from the poorly virulents strains. The extent of oedema was greater than in the control when adsorbed anatoxin was administered. The administration of staphylococcal preparations with a therapeutical purpose after staphylococcus infection caused a significant decrease in the size and intensity of manifestation of the suppurative-inflammatory focus in the foot. The model of limb oedema enabled us to reveal the sensitizing and protective effect of the preparations under study.
