ČR patří mezi země s nejvyšší úrazovostí. V ČR jsou úrazy nejčastější příčinou úmrtí u dětí a mladých dospělých. Mnoho let jsou nejčastější příčinou úmrtnosti dětí (0-14) na úrazy dopravní úrazy (29 %). V ČR je mnoho aktivit zabývajících se prevencí dětských úrazů. Tyto aktivity však nejsou systémové, koordinované, a proto nejsou dostatečně efektivní. Výsledky některých našich a zahraničních zkušeností jednoznačně potvrzují, že koordinovaná a důsledná prevence dětských úrazů má pozitivní vliv na dětskou úrazovost. Proto Ministerstvo zdravotnictví ČR ustavilo v únoru 2005 Mezirezortní pracovní skupinu pro prevenci dětských úrazů. V současné době pracovní skupina dokončila přípravu Národního akčního plánu pro prevenci dětských úrazů na léta 2007-2017, který bude předložen ke schválení Úřadu vlády ČR.

The Czech Republic belongs to countries with the highest rate of accidents. In the Czech Republic, accidents are the most frequent fatal causes in children and young adults. Many years, the most frequent cause of the children mortality (0-14) are traffic accidents (29%). In the Czech Republic, there are many activities aimed at the prevention of children accidents. However, these activities are not systemic and coordinated and thus, their effectiveness is insufficient. Results of certain our and foreign experience unambiguously demonstrate that the coordinated and consequent prevention of children accidents exerts positive effects on the rate of children injuries. Thus, the Ministry of Health established an Inter-sector working group on prevention of children accidents in February 2005. The working group currently completed the preparation of the national action plan for prevention of children injuries in the period of 2007-2017, which will be submitted for approval to the government of the Czech Republic.
