The correlation between amount of earwax present in the ear canal and anatomical proportion of the ear canal was monitored to detect the risk factors of cerumen accumulation. The statistics has revealed significant changes in dependence on age, cerumen type and constitution, amount of tragi present in the ear canal, width of the ear canal, and presence of tragi in accumulated earwax and noticeable movements of the frontal ear canal wall depending on the lower jaws movements. No significant changes of the earwax amount were observed in dependence on conclusion of otoscopic examination and presence of exostoses in the bony ear canal.

I když byl cerumen z různých hledisek zkoumán v řadě studií, zůstávají naše znalosti o tomto druhu sekretu u různých místních patologických stavů i u celkových onemocnění poměrně sporé. Cílem tohoto sdělení je shrnout současné znalosti a přiblížit tuto neprávem opomíjenou problematiku.
In spite of the fact that cerumen has been investigated in series of studies from various points of view, our knowledge about this kind of secretion in different local pathological conditions as well as in general diseases remains relatively scanty. The aim of this communication is to summarize present knowledge and draw attention to this unjustly neglected problem.
