In the EU brownfield presence is still considered a widespread problem. Even though, in the last decades, many research projects and initiatives developed a wealth of methods, guidelines, tools and technologies aimed at supporting brownfield regeneration. However, this variety of products had and still has a limited practical impact on brownfield revitalisation success, because they are not used in their entire potential due to their scarce visibility. Also, another problem that stakeholders face is finding customised information. To overcome this non-visibility and not-sufficient customisation of information, the Information System for Brownfield Regeneration (ISBR) has been developed, based on Artificial Neural Networks, which allows understanding stakeholders' information needs by providing tailored information. The ISBR has been tested by stakeholders from the EU project TIMBRE case studies, located in the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Romania. Data gained during tests allowed to understand stakeholders' information needs. Overall, stakeholders showed to be concerned first on remediation aspects, then on benchmarking information, which are valuable to improve practices in the complex field of brownfield regeneration, and then on the relatively new issue of sustainability applied to brownfield regeneration and remediation. Mature markets confirmed their interest for remediation-related aspects, highlighting the central role that risk assessment plays in the process. Emerging markets showed to seek information and tools for strategic and planning issues, like brownfield inventories and georeferenced data sets. Results led to conclude that a new improved platform, combining the ISBR functionalities with geo-referenced ones, would be useful and could represent a further research application.

Healthcare facilities use a number of information system/information and communication technologies. Each healthcare facility faces a need to choose sourcing strategies most suitable to ensure provision of information system/information and communication technology services, processes and resources. Currently, it is possible to observe an expansion of sourcing possibilities in healthcare informatics, which creates new requirements for sourcing strategies. Thus, the aim of this article is to identify factors influencing information system/information and communication technology sourcing strategies in healthcare facilities. The identification was based on qualitative research, namely, a case study. This study provides a set of internal and external factors with their impact levels. The findings also show that not enough attention is paid to these factors during decision-making.

The author describes his idea of an information system for doctors of the first line of contact, implemented e.g. on a professional personal computer. The main assets of this system are described in areas of therapeutic preventive care, control of health care, research and teaching. The author mentions basic functions of the information system and characteristics of its use. The proposed information system will be optimal for the implementation of tasks in the sphere of health care (and the doctor's own activities); however, it does not relieve the doctor of his responsibility and irreplaceable role in the contact with patients.
The metabolic intensive care unit (MICU) is a special department where patients requiring long-term metabolic and nutritional support are treated. Parenteral nutrition is of primary importance in the MICU. The optimal organisation of many different data within the MICU, requires an information system which is computerised. However, the problem of paramount importance is data collection. To prevent data losses, we have constructed our computerised information system for MICU as the only information channel for mutual communication of physicians, nursing staff, laboratories, etc. The following modules are typical and necessary for work in the MICU: (1) module for parenteral nutrition; (2) module for enteral nutrition; (3) biochemical module; (4) drug therapy administration module; (5) clinical microbiology database; (6) nursing therapeutic module. At present we have 6-years experience of full computerisation of the MICU. According to this experience the assumption that the logical central point of medical information system must be close to the physician, nurse and patient proved to be correct.

This paper deals with a developed information system called a Personal Genetic Card (PGC). The system aims to integrate the known clinical knowledge (interpretations and recommendations) linked to genetic information with the analysis results of a patient. Genetic information has an increasing influence on the clinical decision of physicians as well as other medical and health services. All these services need to connect the genetic profile with the phenotypes such as drug metabolization, drug toxicity, drug dosing, or intolerance of some substances. It still applies that the best way to represent data of medical records is a structured form of record. Many approaches can be used to define the structure (syntax) of the record and the content (semantics) of the record and to exchange data in forms of various standards and terminologies. Moreover, the genetic analysis field has its terminology databases for representing genetic information (e.g. HGNC, NCBI). The next step is to connect the genetic analysis results with c clinical knowledge (interpretation, recommendation). This step is crucial because the genetic analysis results have clinical benefits if we can assign them to some valid clinical knowledge. And the best final result is when we can make a better recommendation based on the genetic results and clinical knowledge. Genetic knowledge databases (e.g. PharmGKB, SNPedia, ClinVar) contain many interpretations and even recommendations for genetic analysis results based on different purposes. This situation is appropriate for developing the PGC system that takes inspiration from case-based reasoning in purpose to allow integration of the assumptions and knowledge about phenotypes and the real genetic analysis results in the structured form.

GastroBase, a clinical information system, incorporates patient identification, medical records, images, laboratory data, patient history, physical examination, and other patient-related information. Program modules are written in C; all data is processed using Novell-Btrieve data manager. Patient identification database represents the main core of this information systems. A graphic library developed in the past year and graphic modules with a special video-card enables the storing, archiving, and linking of different images to the electronic patient-medical-record. GastroBase has been running for more than four years in daily routine and the database contains more than 25,000 medical records and 1,500 images. This new version of GastroBase is now incorporated into the clinical information system of University Clinic in Prague.

Paper describes the system that is developed by the authors and which allows interconnection of vital signs monitor DASH, implant control system ICS 3000, HIS (Hospital Information System) used at Městská nemocnice Ostrava and REPACE the central registry of pacemaker implantations. This connection allows users to effectively create, store and visualize operation reports with patient's data. The new system is being developed using C# programming language within .NET environment. The developed application's title is ImplantSys.
The information system on resistance of bacteria to antibiotics (WARN--World Antibiotic Resistance Network) is implemented as a WWW server at Charles University in Prague (http:/(/)www.warn.cas.cz). Its main goal is to give information about problems of antibiotic resistance of bacteria and to process data on isolated strains. The WARN web-site contains six main topics. Four of them form the core of the system: Topics of Interest bring information on selected timely topics in antibiotic resistance--pneumococci, staphylococci, beta-lactamases, glycopeptide--and aminoglycoside resistance. Global Monitor brings references and reports on resistance in the world as well as recommended method of surveillance. The topic Data contains raw data on strains in particular countries and hospitals. Data can be viewed in their original form as a list of records (strains) or processed to provide statistics about the resistance rates in the selected country or hospital respectively. The topic Search allows one to search for one or several terms in the whole document. Counts of accessed pages show, that there is a standing demand for information about the serious problems of antibiotic therapy of infectious diseases.
The District Institute of National Health in Benesov uses automation of information oriented above all on therapeutic and preventive care. At present analyses on the assembled information are under way and are compared with the structure of analyses needed for the management of the health services. The first stage deals with the structure of dispensarized diseases which will be published by the authors.
