Depresivní porucha je běžným onemocněním u lidí nad 65 let, které vede k neschopnosti a postižení, zvyšuje mortalitu, ale může být ovlivněno léčbou. Antidepresiva zůstávají základem léčby. Autoři krátce rekapitulují výsledky metaanalýz účinnosti a snášenlivost antidepresiv z posledních dvou dekád. Jsou komentována dostupná data o léčbě rezistentní depresivní poruchy ve vyšším věku a doporučené postupy léčby.

Major depressive disorder is common in adults aged 65 years and older, leading to disability, suicidality, and increased mortality, but can be mitigated by treatment. Antidepressants remain mainstay of the treatment. The authors summarize findings of metaanalyses of antidepressant efficacy a tolerability from the last two decades. They also comment available data on treatment of resistant late-life depression and current treatment guidelines.
