The study investigates the use of fiber carriers, based on biopolymeric gums as potential candidates for cosmetic and dermatological applications, in particular for skin regeneration. Gum arabic (GA), xanthan gum (XA), and gum karaya (GK) were used as the main gum materials for the fibers, which were prepared by centrifugal spinning from an aqueous solution. These solutions of different mass gum ratios were blended with poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) for better spinnability. Finally, vitamins E and C were added to selected solutions of gums. The resulting fibers were extensively investigated. The morphology and structure of all fibers were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. Most importantly, they were characterized by the release of vitamin E loaded in the fibers using UV-VIS spectroscopy. The presentation will show that the newly prepared fibers from GA and PEO represent a very promising material for cosmetic and dermatologic applications.

Quaternary ammonium compounds, referred to as QACs, are cationic substances with a structure on the edge of organic and inorganic chemistry and unique physicochemical properties. The purpose of the present work is to introduce QACs and their wide application potential. Fundamental properties, methods of preparation, and utilization in organic synthesis are reviewed. Modern applications and the use of QACs as reactive substrates, reagents, phase-transfer catalysts, ionic liquids, electrolytes, frameworks, surfactants, herbicides, and antimicrobials are further covered. A brief discussion of the health and environmental impact of QACs is also provided. The emphasis is largely on tetraalkylammonium compounds bearing linear alkyl chains.

New N-triazinyl derivatives were synthesized by reaction of cyanuric chloride with 1- and 9-aminoanthracenes and subsequent nucleophilic substitution of chlorine atoms on triazinyl ring with methoxy and/or phenylamino groups. The compounds were characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR and mass spectra. The influence of the chemical structure and solvent polarity on the UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra and fluorescence quantum yields were investigated. Semi-empirical computations revealed highly polar CT states in singlet excited state manifold connected with charge-transfer from the hydrocarbon moiety to the triazinyl ring. The relationships between the CT-to-emitting state energy gap, solvent polarity and fluorescence quantum yield were discussed.

Five optically active imidazole derivatives have been synthesized via a facile 4-step reaction sequence starting from commercially available and inexpensive N-Cbz amino acids. While microwave assisted condensation was unsuccessful, the condensation of the corresponding alpha-bromoketones with formamidine acetate in liquid ammonia was revealed to be a useful method for the synthesis of such imidazole derivatives. The derivatives thus prepared are structurally-related to histamine.
