Molecular and morphological parameters of Serpula lacrymans isolates from various sites in the built environment in Europe and Australia were compared to similar parameters of 'wild' isolates from India, the Sumava Mountains (Czech Republic) and Mount Shasta (USA). The Indian, Czech Republic and all of the building isolates bar one showed identity in both molecular and morphological features. The Australian and the USA isolates (BF-050 and USA'94 respectively) showed specific morphological differences and could be separated on the basis of randomly amplified polymorphic deoxyribonucleic acid polymerase chain reaction (RAPD PCR) with the USA isolate being least closely related to the S. lacrymans type strain of FPRL12C. ITS sequence data revealed two base differences between FPRL12C and BF-050 in the 673 sequenced, nine differences between FPRL12C and USA'94 and 16 differences between USA'94 and the closely related organism Serpula himantioides. The possible evolutionary relationships between the various isolates are discussed along with suggestions for the origin of S. lacrymans as a scourge of the built environment in many temperate areas of the world.

V posledních dvaceti až třiceti letech se sportovní hnutí celosvětově velmi dynamicky rozvíjí a vzniklo neuvěřitelně mnoho různých druhů sportů, sportovních disciplín a pohybových aktivit. S rozvojem možností inovovat nabídku obligatorní tělesné výchovy a sportů na MU od začátku 90.let minulého století bylo stejně jako jiné fakulty a školy udělán poměrně velký kus práce a dnešní nabídka obsahuje 41 sportů a pohybových aktivit. Nejnovější změny jsou na FSpS provádí také v oblasti sportů v přírodě a jejich některých příbuzných indoorových disciplin. Pro velký zájem mezi studenty o horolezení na umělých stěnách bylo využito finančních možností Rozvojového projektu školy pro rok 2007 ke zřízení boulderingové stěny a následně předmětu Bouldering do nabídky obligatorní a volitelné tělesné výchova na MU. Současně bude stěna využívána pro výuku odborných předmětů na FSpS, které mají vztah k pohybu a pobytu v přírodě.

In the last 20 -30 years the sports movement developed very dynamically and in this time was created incredible number of various sports and movement activities. For this reasons new conception of PE and sport on our Masaryk university and Faculty of sport science have been and are developed this way and created the condition for new sports. The building of the bouldering wall is one of our last success which was build-up the thanks of the developing project 2007.

Mimicry is a hot spot of evolutionary research, but de novo origins of aposematic patterns, the persistence of multiple patterns in Müllerian communities, and the persistence of imperfect mimics still need to be investigated. Local mimetic assemblages can contain up to a hundred of species, their structure can be a result of multiple dispersal events, and the gradual build-up of the communities. Here, we investigate the structure of lowland and mountain mimetic communities of net-winged beetles by sampling the Crocker Range in north-eastern Borneo and neighbouring regions. The local endemics evolved from the Bornean lowland fauna which is highly endemic at the species level. We inferred that metriorrhynchine net-winged beetles evolved in high elevations yellow/black and reticulate aposematic high-contrast signals from a widespread low-contrast brown/black pattern. As the mountain range is ~ 6 million years old, and these patterns do not occur elsewhere, we assume their in situ origins. We demonstrate that a signal with increased internal contrast can evolve de novo in a mimetic community and can persist despite its low frequency. Additionally, a similar aposematic signal evolves from different structures and its similarity is imperfect. The community with multiple patterns sets conditions for the evolution of aposematic sexual dimorphism as demonstrated by the yellow/black male and reticulate female pattern of Micronychus pardus. These insights elucidate the complex character of the evolution of mimetic signalling in the dynamically diversifying biota of high tropical mountains.

Článek pojednává o vlivu silových schopností na výkon v lezení. Silové schopnosti jsme měřili pomocí dvou motorických testů. Jednalo se o test ruční dynamometrie a test výdrže ve shybu. Dále jsme u testovaných osob měřili základní antropometrické veličiny – výšku, hmotnost, podíl tělesného tuku a somatotyp. V rámci výzkumu jsme vyhodnotili 46 osob, které jsme rozdělili do tří skupin na výkonnostní lezce, rekreační lezce a nelezce. Všechny testované osoby byly muži. Jednotlivé skupiny jsme pak porovnávali mezi sebou. Statisticky významné rozdíly jsme našli v parametrech „výdrž ve shybu“ a „podíl tělesného tuku“. Rozdíly ostatních sledovaných parametrů nebyly při porovnání jednotlivých skupin statisticky významné.

The article discusses the impact of strength abilities on performance in climbing. Strength abilities were measured using two motor tests. It was a test of dynamometry and pull-up hang test. Furthermore, anthropometric variables, which include height, weight and body fat percentage, have been measured. During the research a total of 46 persons have been measured; these were divided into three groups – performance climbers, recreational climbers and non-climbers. Only men have been included in the test. The groups have been compared to each other with statistically significant differences being found in parameters “pull-up hang” and “body fat percentage”. No statistically significant differences between other parameters have been found.

Italy was hit hard by the World Wars, still today the discovery of human remains dating back to 20th century is a common phenomenon, in particular on Alpine glaciers, due to climate changes. The authors will describe the Italian scenario in terms of legislation, scientific procedures and related disciplines involved, then the difficulties in the identification of human remains of soldiers, but also potential issues related to uncontrolled "scavenging" activities and consequent ethical aspects. The interdisciplinarity, used as systematic approach to deal with complex cases, allowed the presumptive identification of a WWI soldier recovered after one century from the glaciers of the Adamello mountain, as described. Putting aside the national perspective, the authors endorse and encourage the establishment of an international working group in order to share common issues, to exchange experience and to build global best-practices.

INTRODUCTION: Our project follows community requests for health service incorporation into conservation collaborations in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea (PNG). This protocol is for health needs assessments, our first step in coplanning medical provision in communities with no existing health data. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study includes clinical assessments and rapid anthropological assessment procedures (RAP) exploring the health needs and perspectives of partner communities in two areas, conducted over 6 weeks fieldwork. First, in Wanang village (population c.200), which is set in lowland rainforest. Second, in six communities (population c.3000) along an altitudinal transect up the highest mountain in PNG, Mount Wilhelm. Individual primary care assessments incorporate physical examinations and questioning (providing qualitative and quantitative data) while RAP includes focus groups, interviews and field observations (providing qualitative data). Given absence of in-community primary care, treatments are offered alongside research activity but will not form part of the study. Data are collected by a research fellow, primary care clinician and two PNG research technicians. After quantitative and qualitative analyses, we will report: ethnoclassifications of disease, causes, symptoms and perceived appropriate treatment; community rankings of disease importance and service needs; attitudes regarding health service provision; disease burdens and associations with altitudinal-related variables and cultural practices. To aid wider use study tools are in online supplemental file, and paper and ODK versions are available free from the corresponding author. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Challenges include supporting informed consent in communities with low literacy and diverse cultures, moral duties to provide treatment alongside research in medically underserved areas while minimising risks of therapeutic misconception and inappropriate inducement, and PNG research capacity building. Brighton and Sussex Medical School (UK), PNG Institute of Medical Research and PNG Medical Research Advisory Committee have approved the study. Dissemination will be via journals, village meetings and plain language summaries.
