Definice

Látka s antikoagulačním účinkem. Jeho neaktivní forma je tvořena v játrech (tvorba je závislá na vitaminu K), aktivace proteinu C probíhá pomocí trombinu vázaného na endoteliální trombomodulin. Aktivní protein C vytváří komplex s proteinem S, který působí jako jeho kofaktor. V tomto komplexu má protein C schopnost proteolyticky inaktivovat (štěpit) aktivované koagulační faktory V a VIII. A vitamin-K dependent zymogen present in the blood, which, upon activation by thrombin and thrombomodulin exerts anticoagulant properties by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa at the rate-limiting steps of thrombin formation.
