Children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) show deficits in motor-cognitive coupling. However, it remains unclear whether such deficits depend on the severity of DCD. The aim of this study was to examine cognitive-motor coupling under different levels of inhibitory control in children with severe (s-DCD) or moderate DCD (m-DCD), compared with typically-developing children (TDC). The performance of 29 primary-school children aged 6-12 years with s-DCD (Mage = 9.12 ± 1.56 years), 53 m-DCD (Mage = 8.78 ± 1.67 years), and 201 TDC (Mage = 9.20 ± 1.50 years) was compared on a double jump reaching task (DJRT) paradigm, presented on a large 42-inch touchscreen. The task display had a circular home-base, centred at the bottom of the display, and three target locations at radials of -20°, 0°, and 20°, 40 cm above the home-base circle. For the standard double-jump reaching task (DJRT), children moved their index finger from home-base circle to touch the target stimulus as fast as possible; 20% were jump trials where the target shifted left or right at lift-off. For the anti-jump reaching task (AJRT), 20% of trials required an anti-jump movement, touching the contralateral target location. While no group differences were shown on the DJRT, the DCD group were slower to complete reaching movements than the TDC group on AJRT; on the latter, the two DCD sub-groups were not shown to differ. Results confirm the presence of motor inhibition deficits in DCD which may not be dependent on the motor severity of the disorder.

INTRODUCTION: The development of children's healthy and active lifestyles, including habit formation for optimal 24-hour movement behaviour, is associated with their family environment. A whole-family study collecting comprehensive data that can evaluate family lifestyle behaviours in different settings in depth has the potential to provide the evidence-based information needed for national guidelines, for designing interventions and for supporting policy-makers' decisions. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The FAMIly Physical Activity, Sedentary behaviour and Sleep (FAMIPASS) study is a nationally representative cross-sectional study that will recruit 500 families (with at least 1 child aged between 3 and 8 years) from the urban and rural parts of all three regions of the Czech Republic. To examine the relationship between family environment and children's healthy development (eg, healthy weight) and children's active lifestyle behaviour, anthropometric measures, parents' health-related behaviour (including dietary habits, alcohol and tobacco use, screen time and bedtime rules and 24-hour movement behaviour), socioeconomic data and data about the characteristics of the home and neighbourhood will be collected from parents and children. The 24-hour movement behaviour (eg, sleep, sedentary behaviour and physical activity) will be monitored using wGT3X-BT and GT9X Link ActiGraph accelerometers placed on the non-dominant wrist of the children and their parents for 7 consecutive days. The accelerometers will be set up for each family separately, using the group proximity mode, allowing proximity tagging between devices and establishing the time spent together and parent-child coactivities. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The overarching methodological protocol of the FAMIPASS project was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic (reference number: 25/2021). The results and findings will be reported to: (1) the participating families and (2) school representatives and will be (3) presented at national and international conferences and (4) disseminated via peer-reviewed publications.

The purpose of this study was to adapt the MABC-2 Checklist to Czech primary schools by examining of its content validity and feasibility. The content validity achieved the satisfactory level in the second round of panels of experts on child motor development. The evidence on feasibility was obtained from classroom teachers who described this tool as clear, objective and having logical structure and its administration as comprehensible and fast. The MABC-2 Checklist is applicable instrument for the Czech school environment, but its adaptation to various countries should consider the items representing the common motor skills in local children.

DCD is a neurodevelopmental disorder manifesting in difficulties in the motor performance, but also secondarily affects the overall psychosocial development of the given individual. Although the prevalence of DCD is up to 6%, it is an overlooked diagnosis in this country. No tool was available to identify motor deficits until the Czech version of the MABC-2 Test was published. This test assesses whether the motor performance of a child is below the expected level, given the chronological age (diagnostic criterion A for DCD). However, within the Czech environment we still lack a tool to assess the diagnostic criterion B, the impact of these deficits on the child's daily living activities and academic performance. This purpose can be served by the MABC-2 Checklist, which is originally part of the MABC-2 battery. The aim of this paper is to present a methodological procedure for the adaptation of the MABC-2 Checklist for DCD diagnostics in the Czech Republic.
Background: Today an increasing number of people own devices that provide information about their PA. The availability and options of modern information and communication technologies (ICT) bring potential for their utilization within a school environment as tools to support the physical activity (PA) of pupils. However, before interventions with the aid of ICT are introduced in school, it is useful to know the opinions of the individuals at whom are directly targeted, or to whom they immediately relate. Objective: The aim of the study was to describe the opinions of Czech pupils and teachers concerning ICT and their utilisation in support of PA. Methods: The data were obtained with focus groups incorporating teachers (n = 6) and pupils aged 11 to 15 years (n = 23) from three secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The scenario of focus groups was target on opinions concerning ICT, specifically those which could serve to support active lifestyle. The interviews were recorded verbatim and subjected to a content analysis with the use of generated anonymous codes. Results: Secondary school pupils are aware of both the benefits and risks of the use of ICT. The main motivations for the use of ICT in support of PA are social, in the sense of competitiveness, comparison and interaction with peers. Although teachers tend to consider technologies to be beneficial, they view ICT for the support of PA as inauthentic and as having a short-term effect. Their use in schools frequently encounters problems in the form of insufficient technical facilities and weak support on the part of parents and colleagues. In developing applications for contemporary adolescents, it is necessary to meet the stringent demands placed by this section of the population regarding their functions, variability and the individual needs of the users. Conclusions: Czech pupils and teachers view the potential of ICT in support of PA as consisting especially in the use of mobile applications connected with smart watches. The biggest impact on their use had social motives. The human element is still important for the longer-term effects of these interventions.
Background: Lack of physical activity (PA) is associated with a negative impact on human health. In adolescence, an individual develops behaviour that can affect his/her health in adulthood. PA of adolescents in the Czech environment monitored in detail during schooldays, but less described on weekends. It is rare to compare the real PA of an individual and perceived PA of his/her peers in the Czech conditions. Objective: This study aims to find out whether Saturday's achieved PA is different from Saturday's perceived PA and if this relationship is influenced by school grade and sex. Methods: The study sample includes 1,586 adolescents aged 11 to 15 years. The data were collected in 2018 in the Czech Republic. Pupils completed an on-line questionnaire focused on their own PA and perceived level of PA in their peers. Statistical differences were examined using the Pearson chi-square test. Results: In our research sample 59.9% of Czech adolescents met health recommendations for PA (at least 60 minutes of PA) during the monitored Saturday. Significantly more boys (6.3%) than girls (3.4%) report zero PA on Saturday (X2 = 7.125; p = 0.008). However, only 37.0% of pupils believe that most of their classmates met the health recommendations for PA last Saturday. The responses of boys and girl significantly differ (X2 = 18.687; p = 0.001). Pupils believe that 41.9± 23.6% of their classmates had at least one hour of PA on Saturday. This estimation differs by 18 percentage points from the reported situation, so achieves statistically significant difference. Conclusions: The level of the real PA of an individual and perceived level of Saturday's PA in peers significantly differs among Czech adolescents. Based on the social norms theory it is appropriate to target educational interventions directly into the Czech educational system.
