Výsledky: Podle výsledků nástroje AUDIT lze většinu respondentů z hlediska pití alkoholu zařadit do kategorie nízkého rizika.
Introduction and objective: The article aims to estimate the extent of alcohol use and some other mental health issues among Ukrainians who entered the Czech Republic after 24th February 2022. Previous studies focused on the use of alcohol and other substances among Ukrainians in the Czech Republic can't be applied to the current situation as these studies mostly covered the male population and economic migration that differed considerably from the situation in 2022. Methods: A convenience non-representative online survey was conducted on a sample of 66 Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic. Most respondents came to the Czech Republic with their children. Standard questionnaires related to substance use (alcohol, tobacco) were used to determine the reasons for alcohol drinking and possible depression symptoms. Results: According to the results of the AUDIT tool, most respondents can be classified as low risk in terms of alcohol drinking. Some respondents referred to alcohol-related problems. Since the beginning of the war and since arriving in Czechia, there is a high positive correlation between the change in drinking frequency and the change in the amount of alcohol use during a typical drinking occasion. The results also showed a high level of depression symptoms and a high level of smoking. Conclusion: The results are in line with other (rare) research in the field. The importance of alcohol consumption research is stressed, while longer-term research is highly desirable.

A recent survey of alcohol use in the Czech Republic representative for the adult on- line population presented some worrying findings about the use of alcohol during and in the last stages of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic among young adults. The goal of this study is to gain insight into the behavioural drivers of alcohol use among young adults in the Czech Republic, including the enduring effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and use these insight to make recommendations for policies, programmes and interventions promoting more healthy drinking patterns among young adults and mitigating the negative impact of the pandemic. METHODS: A survey questionnaire will be used to collect information about alcohol use, the drivers of alcohol use and opinions on alcohol policy, price sensitivity and advertisement. The research questionnaire is based on standardized and validated questionnaires like AUDIT, DUDIT, DMQR, standard sociodemographic questions, and is supplemented by additional questions related to alcohol policy and other topics that are routinely researched at international level. Good practice recommendations were used to determine the alcohol consumption. CONCLUSIONS: The study will provide findings related to alcohol use among young adults, in particular the characteristics of the use and risk factors related to social determinants. The study can shed light specifically on the behavioural characteristics of the use and on the target group’s perspectives on alcohol policy, exposure to alcohol advertising, especially in the social networks environment. The results of the study will be presented to alcohol policy makers, including suggestions for possible measures.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to identify predictors of the lifetime prevalence of methamphetamine use in the population of Czech disadvantaged neighbourhoods. METHODS: Using data from a face-to-face representative survey, two types of analysis were performed. A bivariate analysis (unadjusted odds ratios estimated with logistic regression) was conducted to determine the relationship with a dependent variable (lifetime prevalence of methamphetamine use). Subsequently, three multivariate binomial logistic regression models (socio-demographic and socioeconomic status, incarceration and victimization, mobility and space) were conducted to control for the influence of other variables. RESULTS: In a series of multinomial logit models, we have found the following predictors to be significantly associated with lifetime prevalence of methamphetamine use: age, gender, Roma ethnicity, net monthly household income, unstable housing, lifetime experience with incarceration, lifetime experience with discrimination, urban-rural divide, and index of rural peripheralization. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that methamphetamine users are multidimensionally disadvantaged and therefore constitute a vulnerable group with specific needs. This should be considered when designing services and policies targeting methamphetamine use in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

Administrative data and the indicators based on it can be used in the field of addiction at different levels (from regional to international) and by different actors (e.g. researchers, service and programme managers, drug policy coordinators, etc.). In using and interpreting administrative data and indicators, however, these actors may encounter the limits of such data and indicators. The aim of this paper is to introduce users of administrative data, whether they are researchers or practitioners, to the theoretical basis and procedures suitable for the interpretation of administrative data and indicators. The article contains a brief summary of the existing knowledge and presents a theoretical approach to the interpretation of administrative data and indicators. The paper concludes by proposing a procedure for the interpretation of administrative data and indicators. This procedure can be applied to a varying degree, depending on the resources and intentions of its potential users. Its use ranges from a systematic application when conducting statistical analysis of indicators to a thought experiment if, for example, a local drug coordinator plans to interpret local changes in indicator values.
BACKGROUND: The Czech Republic has a long tradition of methamphetamine use. Less is known about the circumstances of initiation into its use at the level of individual users. The aim of the research was to analyse the biographic burden prior to initiation into the use of amphetamines. Another aim was to describe initiation into the use of amphetamines from the perspective of users in various groups. METHODS: Qualitative analysis of 25 full transcripts of biographical interviews was conducted. The thematic analysis and coding framework were based on the biopsychosocial model focusing on selected periods of users’ lifespans within five different user groups in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic. RESULTS: The groups of remitted and dependent users are characterized by methamphetamine use, a more severe biographic burden, and by the use of amphetamines in the context of coping with previous experiences and their current difficult situation. DISCUSSION: The results support the notion that there is a difference between the user groups which were identified in a previous analysis within the ATTUNE project. CONCLUSIONS: We identified multiple differences between the user groups and their life stories. The remitted and dependent users shared similar and more severe biographic burdens in comparison to the other groups.
BACKGROUND: High-risk methamphetamine use is frequent in the Czech Republic and includes long-term injecting use. Relatively, the Ústí nad Labem region shows a higher level of methamphetamine use in comparison to other regions in the Czech Republic, which makes it possible to study the trajectories of drug use and its determinants in a unique manner mirroring the social situation of the region and its numerous social problems. METHODS: Interviews were transcribed and coded in NVIVO. The coding approach was thematic analysis and the coding framework was based on the biopsychosocial model and consumption periods. RESULTS: The dependent and remitted users described family, peers, and partners as significant in relation to the use of amphetamines. Informants from other groups did not attribute significance to the family in their accounts. DISCUSSION: The frequent and non-frequent users related their use to nightlife settings, while the situation was more complicated in the case of the dependent and remitted users. CONCLUSIONS: The frequent and non-frequent users related their use to parties and music festivals. Relationships with partners, peers, and family were described by the dependent and remitted informants as a risk factor in terms of an increase in the level of use, as well as a supportive factor in terms of a reduction of use. Employment provides occupation for users and a sense of confidence and it is thus a crucial aspect of recovery.
BACKGROUND: Methamphetamine use is a long-term problem in the Czech Republic. The evidence describing the individual careers of different methamphetamine users is limited. AIMS: The aim of this study is to describe the methodological approach of the qualitative arm of the ATTUNE study in the Czech Republic and the first results of the analysis. METHODS: The data collection in this arm of the study was based on different instruments: offline and online screening instruments, a guide for semi-structured interviews, and life charts. Quasi-quantitative analysis of the data from the supporting data collection instruments (life charts and screening instruments) was conducted to produce a rich description of the stratified sample. SAMPLE: Six different groups of informants were predefined: dependent, remitted, frequent users, frequent ex-users, non-frequent users, and non-users. For each of the six groups five interviews were conducted, except dependent users (six interviews) and non-frequent users (four interviews). RESULTS: The results of the quasi-quantitative analysis showed the differences between the user groups. The results suggest that the remitted and dependent users are similar in most of the aspects that are described when compared to the other groups. The groups of non-frequent users and non-users seem to be different to all the other groups. Furthermore, the results were used to discuss the strengths and limits of different instruments that take empirical data into account. CONCLUSIONS: The article introduced the ATTUNE study to the Czech context and showed that the supporting data collection instruments (life charts and screening instruments) are helpful in providing a description of the stratified sample that is useful for further analysis and that these instruments are also practical for the data collection and allocation to groups of informants.
