The research aims to analyze the tibial component rotation using the finite element method by resecting the tibia in a transverse plane at an angle between 1.5° (external rotation) and -1.5° (internal rotation). We used a three-dimensional scanner to obtain the tibia's geometrical model of a cadaveric specimen. We then exported the surfaces of the tibial geometrical model through the Computer-Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA), which is a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) program. The CAD program three-dimensionally shaped the tibial component, polyethylene, and cement. Our analysis determined that the maximum equivalent stress is obtained in the case of proximal tibial resection at -1.5° angle in a transverse plane (internal rotation) with a value of 12.75 MPa, which is also obtained for the polyethylene (7.693 MPa) and cement (6.6 MPa). The results have shown that detrimental effects begin to occur at -1.5°. We propose the use of this finite element method to simulate the positioning of the tibial component at different tibial resection angles to appreciate the optimal rotation.
This work deals with non-destructive testing of artificial joints made from the austenitic steel SUS316L based on eddy current method. The technique is appropriate for final investigation of artificial joints before insertion the prosthesis into human body to avoid repeated operations. The most commonly implanted joints - knee and hip joint are evaluated in this study. The eddy current probe consists of one coil, which has both the excitation and sensing functions. Five detects are inspected using three different frequencies. The numerical simulations from Opera software with experiments are compared in this article to obtain the most appropriate frequency. The aim of this work is evaluation which frequency provides the biggest magnitude difference between individual simulated signals with various depths if surface defects are inspected.

Úvod: Cílem studie bylo získat hodnoty velikostí distálního konce femuru a proximálního konce tibie pro účely vývoje a výroby rostoucí endoprotézy kolena u dětí. Metoda a materiál: Autoři provedli měření velikosti distálního konce femuru a proximálního konce tibie u dětí ve věku 6–10 let (1. soubor) a 11–15 let (2. soubor) z rtg snímků kolena u 300 nemocných. Měřili nejširší rozměr distální metafýzy femuru (A v AP projekci a C v bočné projekci), nejširší rozměr proximální epifýzy tibie (B v AP projekci a D v bočné projekci). Dále měřili šíři dřeňového kanálu diafýzy femuru v nejužším místě (isthmus) (E v AP projekci) u jiné skupiny 200 pacientů (1. soubor 6–10 let, 2. soubor 11–15 let), kde byl rtg paprsek centrován na diafýzu femuru. Výsledky: Při kalkulaci obou pohlaví zjistili tyto hodnoty v 1. souboru: A 74 mm, B 65 mm, C 51 mm, D 42 mm a E 9,0 mm a ve 2. souboru A 90 mm, B 83 mm, C 67 mm, D 58 mm a E 10,7 mm. Autoři dále zjišťovali metrická data z antropologických studií. Diskuze: Z měření vyplývají požadavky na velikosti komponent s ohledem na bezpečné krytí měkkými tkáněmi. V 1. souboru femorální komponenta s maximem do velikosti 50 x 40 mm, tibiální 45 x 30 mm, ve 2. souboru femorální komponenta s maximem do velikosti 65 x 45 mm, tibiální komponenta 60 x 40 mm. Velikosti budou upřesňovány v preklinickém testování na anatomickém modelu.
Introduction: The aim of the study is to assess the sizes of the distal part of the femur and the proximal part of the tibia for extendable endoprosthesis of the knee joint in children. Methods and material: The authors performed radiological study of distal part of the femur and proximal part of the tibia in 300 patients in which the X-ray examinations focused on the knee joint. There were two groups, the 1st one including children aged 6-10 and the 2nd one including children aged 11-15. They measured the largest distance of distal metaphysis of the femur in AP and lateral view (A, C) and the largest distance of proximal epiphysis of the tibia in AP and lateral view resp. (B, D). They also measured another group of 200 patients (1st group of 6-10 year olds, 2nd group of 11-15 year old), patients in which the X-ray images were focused on the diaphysis of the femur with AP view of the isthmus of the femur. Results: In calculation for both genders there were following values: 1st group A 74 mm, B 65 mm, C 51 mm, D 42 mm and E 9.0 mm and 2nd group A 90 mm, B 83 mm, C 67 mm, D 58 mm and E 10.7 mm. The authors compared these results with data from anthropometric studies. Discussion: The authors achieved basic requirements for sizes of components of extendable endoprosthesis: 1. group femoral component of maximum of 50x40 mm, tibial component 45x30 mm, 2. group femoral component of maximum of 65x45 mm and tibial component 60x40 mm. The sizes will be tested in preclinical study on anatomical models.
