Coaching is one of the most demanding social, helping and pedagogical professions. Therefore, research attention is rightly paid mainly to formal coach education aiming at adequate preparation for the practice of this profession. In recent years, however, many empirical studies have demonstrated that non-formal coach education is playing an increasingly important role in coach development in addition to formal coach education. At the same time, research findings show that it is not only the completed “official” coach education that is crucial for the professional development of each coach, but above all, it is the complex results of their lifelong learning. Therefore, it is essential for various sports institutions, for sports educational facilities, especially for coach educators, to have information about the course, features, and potential problems related to lifelong learning of specific sports coaches. Therefore, our paper aims to create a research tool – a questionnaire that identifies the essential circumstances of lifelong coach learning. The design of the questionnaire builds on our previous research on formal, non-formal and informal coach education and, in particular, on the results of many analogous international empirical studies on coach learning. These starting points show that the following areas play an essential role in the lifelong learning process of coaches: (1) personal sports and coaching experience, (2) reflection (self-reflection) of this experience, (3) professional sharing of coach experience, (4) mentoring and (5) accessible and understandable coach learning information resources. We prepared a working version of the questionnaire based on the above principles. This research tool aims to identify sports coaches' learning and education processes. We designed the questionnaire containing 66 items (closed, open, semi-closed, and scales) to suit various respondents – coaches (multiple types of sports, competitive and recreational sports, different age groups, beginners and experienced coaches, etc.). The first stage of verifying the draft version of the questionnaire consisted of an expert assessment. A total of 6 active coaches (three male coaches and three female coaches from the environment of top, competitive and hobby sports), who were acquainted with the theoretical basis of the questionnaire, recommended minor corrections to the questionnaire. The second stage of the questionnaire verification took place in interviews with six coaches (again working in competitive and leisure sports) who were not acquainted with the theoretical basis of the questionnaire. This stage focused on the clarity and unambiguity of individual items. The revised questionnaire was subsequently converted into an electronic form. The functionality of the final electronic version of the questionnaire was verified within a pilot study (n = 18).
The paper deals with formal educational programmes for fencing coaches in Hungary, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. Based on a content analysis of mainly curricular documents, we were able to identify and describe similarities and differences in approaches to coach education. They were apparent primarily on the legislative, organisational and content level. The research shows that the road to coaching excellence takes a different length of time in different countries. It is even in sharp contrast to formal licence education of some fencing federations when it comes to a bachelor study programme. Differences were also found in the approach towards the organisation of practical training. The more traditionally designed education of coaches in Hungary and the Czech Republic differed from the education in Great Britain from a philosophical and content point of view, specifically in topics such as the application of soft skills and setting, planning and assessment of goals in coaches´ practice.
Gradace sportovního trenéra představuje komplexní a dlouhodobý proces, ve kterém sehrává podstatnou roli jeho vzdělávání. Moderní koncepce celoživotního vzdělávání zdůrazňuje vedle formálního vzdělávání dále vzdělávání neformální a informální. Tato oblast dalšího vzdělávání sportovních trenérů však prozatím není dostatečně empiricky prozkoumána. S odstupem 5 let jsme uskutečnili dvě dotazníková šetření, a to v roce 2011 (n = 142) a 2016 (n = 142). Jejich cílem byla deskripce neformálního vzdělávání a informálního učení u vybraných trenérů a zjištění, jaké možnosti dalšího vzdělávání tito trenéři mají a jaké limity identifikují ve svém dalším vzdělávání. Komparace provedených šetření měla za cíl zjistit, zda po pěti letech došlo k rozvoji neformálního a informálního vzdělávání vybraných sportovních trenérů. Zjištěné údaje nám v porovnání let 2011 a 2016 ukazují určitá zlepšení v přístupu vybraných trenérů k neformálnímu a informálnímu vzdělávání. Výsledky zároveň naznačují institucím, které se přímo nebo nepřímo na trenérském vzdělávání podílejí, kde se objevují rezervy v neformálním vzdělávání a informálním učení sportovních trenérů.
The development of a sports coach is a complex and long-term process in which his education plays the essential role. In addition to formal education, the modern concept of lifelong learning also emphasizes non-formal and informal learning. However, this area of log life education of sports coaches is not yet sufficiently empirically explored. We conducted two questionnaire surveys in 2011 (n = 142) and 2016 (n = 142). They aimed to de-scribe non-formal education and informal learning among selected coaches and to find out what future educational opportunities these coaches have and what limits they identify in their further education. The comparison of the investigations was aimed at determining whether, after five years, the non-formal and informal education of selected sports trainers developed. The data we find compared to 2011 and 2016 show some improvement in the access of selected coaches to non-formal and informal learning. The results also indicate institutions that participate directly or indirectly in coaching, where there are reserves in non-formal education and informal learn-ing of sports coaches.

Stať analyzuje východiska, vznik, rozvoj, současné koncepce a výzkumnou orientaci německé pedagogiky sportu. Autor na základě analýzy rozsáhlého spektra dokumentů a osobní empirie přibližuje tuto významnou součást vědy o sportu jako svébytnou, pregnantně vymezenou a v procesuálních i institucionálních směrech plně konstituovanou vědní disciplínu, která si klade velmi široké a závažné úkoly. Německá pedagogika sportu rozvíjí cíle typické pro moderní empirickou vědu (především reprezentativní výzkumy sportovní edukace) a současně – a zde je německá pedagogika sportu ve světovém kontextu nepřehlédnutelná – úkoly specifické pro vědu normativní (stálé hledání smyslu a optimálních cílů humanistické sportovní edukace). Současně německá pedagogika sportu usiluje o humanizaci a kultivaci dnešního sportu, jako gigantického sociálního a kulturního fenoménu.
The article investigates the starting points, beginning, progression, contemporary conceptions and research orientation of German sport pedagogy. Based on an analysis of an extensive spectrum of documents and personal empiricism the author describes this important component of sport science as an independent, precisely determined and in procedural and institutional tendencies fully formed science discipline that sets very extensive and relevant goals. German sport pedagogy pursues the aims typical for a modern empirical science (primarily representative research of sport education) and simultaneously – and here is German sport pedagogy in the world context special – the particular goals for normative science (continual searching for the signification and optimal aims of human sport education). German sport pedagogy currently strives for humanization and cultivation of present sports, as a gigantic social and cultural phenomenon.
