Třetí generace inhibitorů aromatázy (anastrozol, letrozol a exemestan) je v současné době preferovanou adjuvantní léčbou u žen s estrogen-pozitivním karcinomem prsu. V porovnání s tamoxifenem nezvyšují riziko tromboembolismu, návalů horka či vaginálního krvácení. Na druhou stranu je však pro ně typické poměrně vysoké riziko osteoporotických změn, které v konečném důsledku mohou vést i k frakturám. Vzhledem k této závislosti je tedy zcela na místě ptát se po účinných antiosteoporoticky působících léčivech.
