Prenatal psychology searches for answers to how a mother's behaviour and reactions affect the psychological condition of her child. The goal of this article is focused on the significance and forms of the prenatal attachment and the ways of their realization. We used the method of content analysis of domestic and foreign documents. The data shows a close relationship between the prenatal and postnatal attachment. The relationship is based on emotional, tactile, vocal and sound, visual and auditory communication. The quality of the attachment is affected by a number of factors, such as a non-functional partnership, the relationship towards the expected child, the woman's social situation and her total familiar psychosocial situation. There is evidence of the relationship between the prenatal bonding and the occurrence of depression in the woman. This data emphasizes the significance of the attachment. Studies show the influence of the prenatal attachment on the quality of the postnatal attachment.

Background: Primigravidas are at high risk of experiencing emotional disorders, stress, anxiety, and depression, which can lead to fetal neglect and a lack of adequate pregnancy care. This may result in problems with fetal growth and development, low birth weight, and even infant death. A strong maternal-fetal attachment significantly influences pregnancy care practices. However, there is no prenatal attachment education program included in routine education. Aim: This study aimed to explore healthcare workers' perspectives on the need to develop a prenatal attachment education package for pregnant women in public health centers. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted among eight healthcare workers from eight public health centers in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia; a regency with the seventh highest infant death rate in the country. Inclusion criteria included healthcare workers in maternity and child health units who resided in Bantul and agreed to participate. Purposive sampling was used to recruit the participants. Data collection was conducted through focus group discussion (FGD) with an interview guide. The FGD data were transcribed and analyzed using NVivo 12 Pro International software. Results: The findings identified 216 codes, 16 categories, and 4 themes, including (1) pregnancy education program, (2) maternal-fetal attachment education program, (3) pregnancy emotional management program, and (4) husband support education program. Conclusion: This study identified four themes and sixteen categories that underscore the need for further research to develop guidelines, materials, and media for prenatal attachment education packages.

The interaction between mother and child during pregnancy has not only biological but also psychological, spiritual, and social aspects. The prenatal phase of human life is the most important and the most decisive for a person's entire life in psychological and physiological terms. It is the time period which bears the highest risk for the child's development as it is affected by prenatal stress experienced by the mother during pregnancy. Attachments between the mother and child, later affecting the entire life of an individual, are formed already during the prenatal period. This contribution describes possibilities for healing traumatic experiences that the child brings from the prenatal period. This healing aspect of the prenatal period proceeds through the attachment that a human being has formed with God based on his/her experience with attachment to the primary carer. Trauma caused by the mother, father, or other people during the prenatal phase of fetal development is healed through prayer, when the child returns to the respective time to live through the moments of trauma again, this time filled with love, joy, and self-adoption through Jesus Christ. This goal is studied based on authentic testimonies of witnesses who experienced healing, through prayer, of their own traumas suffered during prenatal fetal development.

BACKGROUND: Maternal-fetal attachment might be associated with maternal mental health issues, but previous results have been inconsistent, particularly regarding prenatal anxiety. We compared maternal-fetal attachment between pregnant women with and without symptoms of antenatal depression and anxiety. Additionally, we examined the relationships between prenatal depressive and anxiety symptoms, psychosocial stress, and maternal-fetal attachment. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 2,233 pregnant women. The data were collected between March 2021 and March 2023 at outpatient clinics in the Czech Republic. We used self-report questionnaires to assess symptoms of prenatal depression (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, EPDS), anxiety (Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale, PASS), psychosocial stress (Prenatal Psychosocial Profile, PPP), and maternal-fetal attachment (Prenatal Attachment Inventory - Revised, PAI-R). RESULTS: Women without symptoms of antenatal depression had higher total scores on the PAI-R (U = 336,357; p = .013) and on the PAI-R Interaction subscale (U = 322,913; p < .001), suggesting a higher quality of maternal-fetal attachment than women with symptoms. No other significant associations were found between antenatal depression, anxiety and the PAI-R subscales scores. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that women experiencing increased depressive, but not anxiety, symptoms in pregnancy, have a poorer quality of attachment to their child, although the effect size is small. Consequently, treating prenatal depression in women could have a positive effect on maternal-fetal attachment.

Heteropagus or parasitic conjoined twins represent an extremely rare anomaly, occurring in approximately 1 in 1 million cases. This condition is characterized by the presence of a parasitic twin with significant congenital abnormalities attached to an otherwise typically healthy fetus. The well-developed twin is known as the “autosite” or “host,” while the severely affected fetus is termed the “parasite.” Survival of the defective twin depends on the cardiovascular system of the second, relatively normal fetus. We present the case of a 27-year-old primigravida in her 14th week of pregnancy with ultrasound findings indicating parasitic conjoined twins, specifically omphalopagus.

This contribution deals with the ethical issues directly related to prenatal and perinatal psychology that views human life as encounters, continuity and dialogue. The success of the life of a newborn baby is already predetermined in the prenatal period, which depends primarily on the psychological state (mood) of the mother. Confucius was aware of this fact as early as the 6th century BC. Moreover, Aristotle dealt with the issue regarding the beginning of life (4th century BC.) followed by St. Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century. What is surprising is the extent to which their views correspond to our current knowledge. Of course, it depends on our point of view, whether we approach solving these issues in terms of philosophy, law, medicine, psychology or theology. The author also deals with some of the modern issues associated with the current crisis of the family, as is the trend of more “singles”, falling marriage rates, the promiscuous behaviour of couples out of wedlock, denial of paternity, low birth rate, induced abortions, irresponsibility and lack of appropriate identification patterns in the family, and so forth. It draws attention to some of the possibilities and capacities of reproductive medicine, such as cryopreservation of sperm, oocytes and embryos, spare gestation, issues related to genetic engineering and consulting, gender selection and the like.
