OBJECTIVES: Critical care ultrasonography has become established within ICUs as a diagnostic tool and to guide management strategies and practical procedures. Following an international consensus statement in 2011, various national professional societies and organizations have sought to develop and deliver training program. The aim of this review was to assess the similarities and differences among these postgraduate intensive care/critical care training program. DATA SOURCES: A systematic review was performed in two steps. First, we searched medical databases and national societies' websites for documents meeting predefined inclusion criteria. If not found, professionals related to critical care ultrasonography were contacted. DATA EXTRACTION: Data were extracted independently by two authors. Analyses were conducted on general training requirements as well as specific competencies defined in the documents. DATA SYNTHESIS: Eight national program from seven countries were identified from a total of 25 countries; all identified program have defined competencies for core critical care ultrasonography. Although there were common themes across these program, significant variations in training requirements and assessments existed, for example, number of scans required for echocardiography training ranged from 10 to 100. Furthermore, the specifics of each ultrasound module varied between program. CONCLUSIONS: Despite widespread and increasing use of ultrasound in ICUs, the majority of countries lacked a formal training program and clearly defined competencies. Even among the countries where these are available, there remains variability. There is a need to better define the competencies required in core critical care ultrasonography and standardize the assessment process.

BACKGROUND: The variables affecting participants' satisfaction with a scientific conference in dermatology have not been systematically assessed. The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) has collected a huge number of questionnaires related to sessions' and speakers' evaluation over the years. The critical analysis of satisfaction's score is important and helpful for continuous improvement of the scientific programming. OBJECTIVE: To identify factors that positively or negatively affect sessions' and speakers' scoring in the largest European congress of dermatology. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of all sessions' evaluation forms collected between 2009 and 2015 during seven consecutive EADV congresses. A predictive model for sessions' and another for speakers' score evaluation were built based on multivariate linear regression. RESULTS: Overall, 4964 speakers and 1022 sessions were evaluated. Topics more positively associated with total sessions' scoring were as follows: dermoscopy, neutrophilic diseases and hidradenitis suppurativa. Conversely, types of sessions which considerably negatively associated with total sessions' scoring included short thematic presentations and free communications. Furthermore, types of sessions which were more positively associated with high total speakers' scoring consisted of focus sessions and plenary lectures, whereas the most appreciated topics encompassed dermoscopy, screening programs, melanocytic naevi, panniculitis, organ transplanted and immunosuppressed patients, neutrophilic diseases, dermatopathology and history of dermatology. Finally, short thematic presentations, free communications and guidelines session showed overall poor scores. CONCLUSION: Focused and specialized topics are more prone to capture attention of participants when compared to sessions of heterogeneous content. Quite surprisingly, a practice-oriented topics such as guidelines, did not achieve a high score. Our findings provide new knowledge about components, which increase the level of satisfaction of participants and should facilitate the programming of attractive scientific congresses associated with increased training satisfaction.

Článek se zaměřuje na současný systém postgraduálního vzdělávání a délku vzdělávacího programu pro obor geriatrie v jednotlivých zemích Evropské unie. Dále shrnuje kompetence geriatra a všeobecného internisty v péči o staré, polymorbidní a křehké geriatrické pacienty a zaměřuje se na možné uplatnění specialistů v geriatrii ve zdravotnických systémech v Evropských zemích.
The article focuses on the current system of postgraduate training and the length of the training program in geriatric medicine in individual countries of the European Union. Further, it summarizes competences of the geriatrician and the general internal medicine specialist in the care for older, polymorbid and frail patients and suggests new roles for specialists in geriatric medicine in European health care systems.
