V období od září 2019 do září 2021 jsem se zúčastnila programu “The European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training” (EPIET) v České republice, tj. ve vlastním členském státě, tzv. Member State track (MS-track). V této stručné zprávě nastíním mé zkušenosti s programem a případným uchazečům o program doložím některé potřebné informace.
In the period from September 2019 to September 2021, I participated in „The European Program for Intervention Epidemiology Training“ (EPIET) in the Czech Republic, i.e. the EU country of my nationality and citizenship, the so-called Member State track (MS-track). I worked at the Department of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology, Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology at the National Institute of Public Health. This institute is also an EPIET training site acknowledged by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). In this brief report, I will outline my experience with the program and provide some necessary information to potential programme applicants.

As part of the European HERA grant, which SZU received in September 2021, the technical and personal capacity of some laboratories for sequencing the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the Czech Republic (CZ) was increased. The text is a summary of basic information on SARS-CoV-2 variants sequenced in CZ for the period December 2021 – April 2022. Detailed reports were published on 18 August 2022 on the SZU website.

The growth dynamics of Lactobacillus acidophilus 145 and Lb. rhamnosus GG in substrate prepared from buckwheat, water or milk, sucrose or flavoring compound (vanilla and chocolate) was investigated. In general, during the fermentation (numbers at the end have reached values from 1.8?108 to 3.4?109 cfu g1) or storage (Nfinal from 1.8?108 to 3.3?109 cfu g1), the growth of individual strain was satisfactory. According to the evaluation of overall taste, the substrate with vanilla flavor and water, fermented by Lb. rhamnosus GG for 24 h and stored for 5 days, obtained the highest number of points. Lactobacilli had slightly cytotoxic effect on the HeLa cells and Caco-2 cells, and the percentage of inhibition after 48 and 72 h of exposure ranged from 40 to 96 % for both selected strains.

INTRODUCTION: The completeness and timeliness of the pertussis questionnaire-based enhanced surveillance system (ESS) among infants and reported pertussis data within the electronic nationwide notification system (NNS) in the years 2015, 2017 and 2019 were evaluated in a pilot study. METHODS: The completeness of the variables for demographic characteristics, date of symptom onset, hospitalisation and vaccination status were assessed in both systems. Timeliness of reporting in the NNS was analysed as the interval between symptom onset and a) the date of first specimen collection (diagnostic delay), and b) the date of the Regional Public Health Authority receiving notification (notification delay). RESULTS: A total of 121 confirmed pertussis cases were reported to the NNS in the study years, while in the ESS a total of 104 confirmed cases were reported in infants. In both systems most cases were in the age group of one completed month of life (20% versus 23%) and males (55% versus 55%). The majority of cases were hospitalised (81% versus 85%) and unvaccinated (77% versus 78%). Within the NNS, the first dose of vaccine was reported in 13 cases, the second dose in 11, and third dose in three cases. Within the NNS, 100% completeness of following variables was found: symptom onset, week and region of reporting, age, gender and place of isolation. Median diagnostic delay was nine days. Median notification delay was 18 days. CONCLUSIONS: Data completeness was high in the NNS, except for lack of vaccination data in those eligible by age. Efforts to improve the completeness of laboratory-related variables and timeliness are essential. Based on the study results, the project of improving the ESS for infants will continue with regular evaluation.
