NPK fertilizers Dotaz Zobrazit nápovědu
Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is an emerging persistent organic pollutant which has been identified at significant levels in soils. Existed ecotoxicological studies have mainly employed earthworms to evaluate the toxicity of PFOA. However, little information do we know about the toxicity of PFOA regarding soil microorganisms. Accordingly, the adverse effects of PFOA on microbial activity in a wheat soil under four fertilization treatments were investigated in this study. The microcalorimetric results revealed that the toxicity of PFOA on soil microbial activity in four treatments followed a descending sequence: Control (no fertilization), NK (no P fertilizer, but N and K fertilizers were used), PK (no N fertilizer, but P and K fertilizers were used), and NPK (N, P and K fertilizers were used). The soil sample with higher available P content had higher resistant to PFOA. There were significant differences in urease activity and alkaline phosphatase activity among the four fertilization treated soils. Molecular modeling studies clearly demonstrated that the binding of PFOA with alkaline phosphatase was more stable than with urease through electrostatic interaction, van der Waals force, and hydrogen bonds. These results are expected to provide more comprehensive information in toxicity of PFOA in soil environment.

Concentration of trace metals (TMs) is one of the most crucial factors determining the quality of cereal grains. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of digestate, manure, and NPK fertilization on TM concentration in grains and straw of two cereal crops-winter wheat (WW) and spring barley (SB)-and TM transfer from soil to plants. The experiment was carried out between 2012 and 2016. Every year, the same treatment was used on each plot: control (without fertilization), digestate, digestate + straw, cattle slurry, and mineral NPK fertilization. In general, fertilization increased the concentration of TMs that belong to the micronutrient group (Zn, Cu, Fe), particularly after application of digestate and cattle slurry. At the same time, fertilization, regardless of the fertilizer type, led to an increase in Cd concentration in the grain of WW in comparison with the control. Despite the increase in Cd and micronutrient content as a result of fertilization, the concentration of elements remained below the applicable standards. Among TMs, only Pb content exceeded the European Union limits. The increased concentration of Pb was, however, an effect of other factors, rather than fertilization. The results clearly indicated that the biogas digestate from anaerobic codigestion of cattle slurry and agricultural residue could be utilized as fertilizer in agricultural applications without a risk of contaminating the food chain with TMs.

Agricultural intensification over the last 40 years has increased cereal yields, but there is very limited information on the effects of intensification practices (e.g., nondiverse rotations, mineral NPK fertilizer, and pesticides) on crop health and quality. Results from the study reported here suggest that the use of mineral NPK fertilizers reduces phenolic acid and flavonoid concentrations in leaves and increases the susceptibility of wheat to lodging and powdery mildew, when compared to composted FYM inputs. In contrast, the use of herbicides, fungicides, and growth regulators reduces lodging and foliar disease severity but had no effect on phenolic acid and flavonoid concentrations. The use of composted FYM inputs also resulted in a significant grain yield reduction and not substantially reduced the severity of opportunistic pathogens such as Septoria, which remain a major yield limiting factor unless fungicides are used and/or more Septoria resistant varieties become available.

BACKGROUND: Tropical rainforests are frequently limited by soil nutrient availability. However, the response of the metabolic phenotypic plasticity of trees to an increase of soil nutrient availabilities is poorly understood. We expected that increases in the ability of a nutrient that limits some plant processes should be detected by corresponding changes in plant metabolome profile related to such processes. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We studied the foliar metabolome of saplings of three abundant tree species in a 15 year field NPK fertilization experiment in a Panamanian rainforest. The largest differences were among species and explained 75% of overall metabolome variation. The saplings of the large canopy species, Tetragastris panamensis, had the lowest concentrations of all identified amino acids and the highest concentrations of most identified secondary compounds. The saplings of the "mid canopy" species, Alseis blackiana, had the highest concentrations of amino acids coming from the biosynthesis pathways of glycerate-3P, oxaloacetate and α-ketoglutarate, and the saplings of the low canopy species, Heisteria concinna, had the highest concentrations of amino acids coming from the pyruvate synthesis pathways. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: The changes in metabolome provided strong evidence that different nutrients limit different species in different ways. With increasing P availability, the two canopy species shifted their metabolome towards larger investment in protection mechanisms, whereas with increasing N availability, the sub-canopy species increased its primary metabolism. The results highlighted the proportional distinct use of different nutrients by different species and the resulting different metabolome profiles in this high diversity community are consistent with the ecological niche theory.

Phosphorus reuse by application of biochar is a recent concept that needs to be supported by long-term field data. To monitor biochar's long-term effects on P turnover, one-off biochar was applied in 2013 with mineral NPK fertilizers being applied every year since then. Biochar application rates included 0 t ha-1 (CK), 15.75 t ha-1 (BC1), 31.5 t ha-1 (BC2), and 47.25 t ha-1 (BC3). Over the 5 years' field experiment, P distribution in soil profile, inorganic and organic P fractions in bulk, and rhizosphere soil and maize P uptake were determined. The results showed that biochar reduced the inorganic P fractions (Ca2-P, Ca8-P, Al-P, Fe-P and O-P by 4.8-33.7%, 8.8-59.0%, 13.7-28.6%, 8.4-17.6%, and 3.3-25.5%, respectively), and increased organic P fractions (MLOP and HROP by 67.2-11.6% and 18.8-87.7%, respectively) in bulk soil, while in rhizosphere soil, Fe-P and MLOP were decreased by 13.4-34.5% and 67.2-111.6%, respectively, in 2017. After the application of biochar for 5 years, moderately labile organic phosphorus (MLOP), moderately resistant organic phosphorus (MROP), and highly resistant organic phosphorus (HROP) with different biochar treatments were enhanced by 12.8-42.7%, 20.1-48.0%, and 5.5-66.6%, respectively, but Ca8-P, Al-P, O-P, and Ca10-P were all decreased by 18.6-24.9%, 16.4-21.4%, and 3.3-23.48%, respectively. Total P storage in 0-100 cm was declined by biochar. Increases in maize P uptake in the stover (38.6-71.3%) and grain (20.9-25.5%) were occurred after 31.5 t ha-1 and 47.25 t ha-1 biochar addition. To sum up, biochar is found to regulate the distribution, storage, and transformation of soil P, which lead to increase in maize P uptake.

Crop rotation long-term field experiments were established in 1955 and 1956 at three locations in the Czech Republic (Čáslav, Ivanovice, and Lukavec) differing in their climatic and soil physicochemical properties. The effect of long-term application of farmyard manure and farmyard manure + NPK treatments on plant-available, easily mobilizable, potentially mobilizable, and pseudo-total contents of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) contents in soils (in 2013) as well as the uptake of these elements by winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain and straw were analyzed in the two following seasons: 2012 and 2013. The treatments resulted in increasing the soil pH level when compared to the control, but the cation exchange capacity remained unchanged. Although all fertilizers were applied for six decades, the pseudo-total concentration elements in both the soil and wheat plants stayed far below those of the Czech and European threshold limits for agricultural soils and cereals for human nutrition and feedstuff. Although the mobile pools of As, Cu, and Zn were slightly changed at the treated soils, these changes were not related to the element uptake by the wheat plants. Moreover, the effect of the location and growing season was more decisive for the differences in soil and plant element contents than for the individual treatments. Thus, the long-term application of farmyard manure did not result in any substantial change in risk element contents in both soils and winter wheat plants.

In the past few decades, the pressure of higher food production to satisfy the demand of ever rising population has inevitably increased the use synthetic agrochemicals which have deterioration effects. Biostimulants containing beneficial microbes (single inoculants and microbial consortium) were found as an ideal substitute of synthetic chemical fertilizers. In recent years, microbial consortium is known as a better bioinoculant in comparison to single inoculant bioformulation because of multifarious plant growth-promoting advantages. Looking at the advantageous effect of consortium, in present investigation, different bacteria were isolated from rhizospheric soil and plant samples collected from the Himalayan mountains on the green slopes of the Shivaliks, Himachal Pradesh. The isolated bacteria were screened for nitrogen (N) fixation, phosphorus (P) solubilization and potassium (K) solubilization plant growth promoting attributes, and efficient strains were identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing and BLASTn analysis. The bacteria showing a positive effect in NPK uptake were developed as bacterial consortium for the growth promotion of eggplant crop. A total of 188 rhizospheric and endophytic bacteria were sorted out, among which 13 were exhibiting nitrogenase activity, whereas 43 and 31 were exhibiting P and K solubilization traits, respectively. The selected three efficient and potential bacterial strains were identified using 16S rRNA gene sequencing as Enterobacter ludwigii EU-BEN-22 (N-fixer; 35.68 ± 00.9 nmol C2H4 per mg protein per h), Micrococcus indicus EU-BRP-6 (P-solubilizer; 201 ± 0.004 mg/L), and Pseudomonas gessardii EU-BRK-55 (K-solubilizer; 51.3 ± 1.7 mg/mL), and they were used to develop a bacterial consortium. The bacterial consortium evaluation on eggplant resulted in the improvement of growth (root/shoot length and biomass) and physiological parameters (chlorophyll, carotenoids, total soluble sugar, and phenolic content) of the plants with respect to single culture inoculation, chemical fertilizer, and untreated control. A bacterial consortium having potential to promote plant growth could be used as bioinoculant for horticulture crops growing in hilly regions.

In this paper, the authors deal with the problem of processing various types of waste generated by leather industry, with special emphasis to chrome-tanned waste. The agent that makes this waste potentially hazardous is hexavalent chromium. Its compounds can have negative effects on human health and some CrVI salts are considered carcinogens. The authors present the risks of spontaneous oxidization of CrIII to CrVI in the open-air dumps as well as the possible risks of wearing bad quality shoes, in which the chromium content is not controlled. There are several ways of handling primary leather waste, but no satisfactory technology has been developed for the secondary waste (manipulation waste, e.g. leather scraps and used leather products). In this contribution, a new three-step hybrid technology of processing manipulation waste is presented and tested under laboratory, pilot-scale and industrial conditions. The filtrate can be used as a good quality NPK fertilizer. The solid product, titanium-chromium sludge, can serve as an inorganic pigment in glass and ceramic industry. Further, the authors propose selective collection of used leather products (e.g. old shoes), the hydrolysable parts of which can be also processed by the new hybrid technology.
