BACKGROUND: The Overall Anxiety Severity and Impairment Scale (OASIS) is a transdiagnostic measure that assesses severity and impairment associated with anxiety disorders. However, its psychometric properties were primarily examined in English-speaking or western countries. Therefore, this study aims to examine its psychometric parameters in the Czech Republic. METHODS: A large representative sample (n = 1738), a clinical sample (n = 57) and a retest sample (n = 20) were used. In addition to the OASIS, conventional measures of anxiety, depression, personality traits, self-esteem, life satisfaction, and other scales were also administered. Moreover, we examined the latent structure, reliability, validity, and the cut-off score for the Reliable Change Index (RCI) and the Clinically Significant Change Index (CSI). RESULTS: Higher anxiety was found in females, religious non-church members, and students. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis supported the adequate fit of the unidimensional solution: x2(4) = 3.20; p < 0.525; CFI = 1.000; TLI = 1.000;RMSEA = 0, SRMR = 0. The measurement equivalence examination indicated that the OASIS measures anxiety invariantly between males and females. The validity of the OASIS was supported by positive associations with neuroticism, depression, perceived stress, guilt, shame, and the established anxiety measures. The internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's alpha = 0.96, McDonald's omega = 0.96). The test-retest reliability was acceptable (r = 0.66). The cut-off for the CSI is 6 and the RCI is 5.32. CONCLUSIONS: The OASIS represents a reliable and valid instrument for assessing anxiety in adults. Due to its shortness, excellent psychometric properties, and percentile norms, it is especially useful for short and accurate screening of anxiety and mapping therapeutic changes in clinical practice.

Hlavným cieľom nášho kvalitatívneho výskumu bolo zmapovať emočné prežívanie ukrajinských študentov na Slovensku počas vojny a identifikovať ich stratégie zvládania emócií. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 6 participantov, z toho 2 boli muži a 4 ženy s priemerným vekom 20 rokov. Nápomocnými stratégiami boli odpútanie pozornosti a vyhľadávanie sociálnej podpory. Voči ruským študentom neprežívajú negatívne emócie, ich vzťahy sa ešte viac prehĺbili a prežívajú reciprocitu
The main goal of this qualitative research was to understand emotions of ukrainian students in Slovakia during Russian invasion and identify strategies of coping with their emotions. The research group consisted of 6 respondents, of which were 2 men and 4 women of average age 20. We used individual semi-structured interviews to obtain the data. The bunching method was used for data analysis. The results of the research showed that huge palette of their negative emotions started to gradually soften. Helpful strategies such as attentional deployment and searching for social support were found to be the most important for ukrainian students. Cíl. Metodologie systematického přehledu studií ověřujících účinnost intervence při léčbě psychických poruch napomáhá redukci předpojatostí či zkreslení používáním explicitních a rigorózních metod pro vyhledávání literatury a kritickým hodnocením dosavadních studií. Doposud nebyla realizována systematická přehledová studie, která by se věnovala účinnosti individuální formy terapie zaměřené na emoce (EFT), a to navzdory rostoucímu počtu výzkumných zjištění zkoumajících účinnost EFT. Cílem tohoto systematického přehledu je proto zhodnotit účinnost individuální formy EFT při léčbě psychických poruch a potíží. Metoda. V této studii autoři postupovali dle metodologického manuálu PRISMA, včetně vyhledávání v databázích EBSCO, PubMed a Web of Science. Limity. Do tohoto systematického přehledu byly vybrány pouze studie psané v anglickém jazyce, a naopak nebyly zařazeny případové studie.
Objective. The methodology of a systematic review of studies verifying the efficacy of the intervention in the treatment of mental disorders helps to reduce bias by using explicit and rigorous methods for literature search and critical evaluation of previous studies. Up to now, no systematic review has been conducted on the efficacy of individual emotion focused therapy (EFT), despite the growing number of research findings examining the efficacy of EFT. The aim of this systematic review is therefore to evaluate the efficacy of an individual form of EFT in the treatment of mental problems and disorders. Method. In this study, the authors followed the PRISMA methodological manual. A systematic literature search was performed in the EBSCO, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. The analysis was focused on assessing the magnitude of the effect of pre-post therapeutic changes, the sustainability of change within follow-up, or comparing the effect of change with another psychotherapeutic approach by evaluating the statistical and material significance of changes (effect size). Results. The authors identified seven studies that used a (quasi) experimental method to investigate the efficacy of EFT. The results support the efficacy of EFT as well as the sustainability of change in the treatment of depression. There is preliminary support for the efficacy of EFT in the treatment of social anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders. So far, in the case of the above-mentioned disorders and difficulties, it is possible to consider EFT as probably effective. Limitations. Only studies written in English were selected in this systematic review. Case studies were not included.
Cieľom výskumu bolo adaptovať zahraničný sebavýpoveďový dotazník Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaure (FFMQ) v slovenských podmienkach, overiť jeho psychometrické vlastnosti a autormi navrhovanú 5-faktorovú štruktúru.
Problem: The aim of the present study was to adapt the English self-report questionnaire Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaure (FFMQ - Baer et al., 2006) to Slovak conditions as well as to evaluate its psychometric properties and to investigate its 5-factor structure reported by the authors. FFMQ is used to measure the construct of mindfulness and its 5 facets identified by the authors (i.e. observing inner experience, describing inner experience, acting with awareness, non-judging of inner experience, and non-reactivity to inner experience). Methods: After having done a back-translation in cooperation with the author of FFMQ, we evaluated its reliability and construct validity within the sample of 282 university female students and via the instruments used to measure perceived emotional intelligence (TMMS; Trait Meta-Mood Scale - Salovey et al., 1995), trait anxiety (STAI X-2; Stait-Trait Anxiety Inventory - Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, 1970), alexithymia (TAS-20; Toronto Alexithymia Scale - Taylor, Bagby, Parker, 1992) and difficulties in emotion regulation (DERS; Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale - Gratz, Roemer, 2012). Statistical analysis: The structure of FFMQ questionnaire was examined via exploratory factor analysis (principal component, rotation oblimin). Pearson correlation analyses were conducted to test relationships between FFMQ scale and instruments used to measure related constructs. Cronbach coefficients alpha were calculated to assess internal consistency aspect of reliability of FFMQ scale and its subscales. Results: It has been shown, that FFMQ represents a reliable and valid instrument. The results of EFA indicated that there are five factors in the structure of the Slovak version of FFMQ. Study limitation: (a) measurement of mindfulness is self-reported; (b) the findings are limited to a sample of university female students.

Aim: The aim of the research was to verify previous foreign research findings about relationship between emotional intelligence and burn-out syndrome in the sample of Slovak nurses. Concurrently we explore the level of burn-out syndrome prevalence in the sample of Slovak nurses. Method: Research sample consisted of 62 nurses from The Department of Trauma Surgery. Questionnaire method for collecting data was used. The Maslach Burn-out Inventory was used as the level of burn-out syndrome measure and The Schutte Self-report Emotional Intelligence Test was used as the emotional intelligence measure. Results: We found negative relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and burn-out syndrome prevalence, and the stronger association of emotional intelligence was found to depersonalisation and personal accomplishment as burn-out syndrome factors. Concurrently we found that one third of nurses were threaded by the burn-out syndrome in our sample. Conclusion: Research finding emphasize unfavourable burn-out syndrome prevalence situation in nursing profession, and present a possibility of burn-out syndrome prevention by emotional intelligence development.

Introduction: Cognitive impairment after abdominal surgeries is the most frequently manifested as postoperative delirium/acute confusion. The assessment of patient´s cognitive status is an important part of care management. Objective: The objective of the study was to show the changes in cognitive functions through the SMMSE (The Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination) in patients after abdominal surgeries that were diagnosed with acute confusion. Methodology and Sample: We used the translated Slovak version of the SMMSE presented by Vajdičková & Kolibáš (2000). The scale was applied in n = 111 purposively selected participants, the 65-85 year-old patients with acute confusion who were assessed minimally 3 times (on the 1st, 4th and 7th days of acute confusion). We used Fischerov F test (ANOVA) and Student´t-test for statistical data processing. Results: The statistically significant differences in cognitive functions were not found between the genders. The differences were found in the groups according to age on the 4th day between the 1st group (65-75 year-olds), the 2nd group (76-80 year-olds) vs. the 3rd group (81-85 year-olds). There were significant differences between individual measurements and diagnoses in the comparison according to the diagnoses (K35, K80, K56, K40, K25, and C18). Conclusion: The expected differences in cognitive functions were found in the groups according to age and diagnoses of abdominal surgeries. Fluctuating cognition is one of the defining characteristics of nursing diagnosis Acute Confusion.
