The relationship between negative attitudes and psychopathology is not yet clear. The current shift to a dimensional approach to mental disorders, as reflected in both the DSM-5 and ICD-11 models of personality disorders, seems to enrich the traditional approach to study attitudes. This study investigates whether and how impairments in personality functioning are linked to attitudes toward minorities. A comparison of levels of impairment in global and Self and interpersonal personality functioning, negative attitudes, social distance, and racism was conducted in the sample of 127 adults from the general population group (n = 69) and a group of people with diagnosed personality disorders (n = 58). Differences between both groups were found. The personality disorders group showed higher impairment in personality functioning, scored higher on negative attitude measures, and was more prone to the blatant expression of attitudes than the general population. The association between attitudes and personality functioning did not fully reflect these trends. However, given the nature of differences, it is suspected that the proclivity to the blatant expression of negative attitudes could go beyond negative attitudes toward minorities themselves and reflect disorder-related characteristics, that is, more problematic and conflicted relationships with others in general.

BACKGROUND: Real or perceived discrimination contributes to lower quality of care for Black compared to white patients. Some forms of discrimination come from non-physician and non-nursing (non-MD/RN) staff members (e.g., receptionists). METHODS: Utilizing the Burgess Model as a framework for racial bias intervention development, we developed an online intervention with five, 30-min modules: (1) history and effects of discrimination and racial disparities in healthcare, (2) implicit bias and how it may influence interactions with patients, (3) strategies to handle stress at work, (4) strategies to improve communication and interactions with patients, and (5) personal biases. Modules were designed to increase understanding of bias, enhance internal motivation to overcome bias, enhance emotional regulation skills, and increase empathy in patient interactions. Participants were non-MD/RN staff in nine primary care clinics. Effectiveness of the intervention was assessed using Implicit Association Test and Symbolic Racism Scale, to measure implicit and explicit racial bias, respectively, before and after the intervention. Acceptability was assessed through quantitative and qualitative feedback. RESULTS: Fifty-eight non-MD/RN staff enrolled. Out of these, 24 completed pre- and post-intervention assessments and were included. Among participants who reported characteristics, most were Black, with less than college education and average age of 43.2 years. The baseline implicit bias d-score was 0.22, indicating slight pro-white bias. After the intervention, the implicit bias score decreased to -0.06 (p=0.01), a neutral score indicating no pro-white or Black bias. Participant rating of the intervention, scored from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree), for questions including whether "it was made clear how to apply the presented content in practice" and "this module was worth the time spent" was ≥4.1 for all modules. CONCLUSIONS: There was a decrease in implicit pro-white bias after, compared with before, the intervention. Intervention materials were highly rated.

This exploratory study sought to test the relationship among race, self-rated health (SRH), and colorblindness, conceptualized as the belief that race/ethnicity should not and does not matter. Independently, SRH, a multidimensional concept entailing physical and psychological health and one's affiliation in an ethnic/racial group, may contribute to racial attitudes. However, little is known about how SRH and racial/ethnic identity in combination may affect colorblind racial attitudes. It was thus hypothesized that SRH would moderate the relationship between race/ethnicity and colorblind racial attitudes. The research sample consisted of 136 autochthonous adults and "individuals with migration backgrounds" residing in Bavaria (Germany), who were divided by self-identified race (whites, n = 85; non-whites, n = 51). The results show that SRH moderates the relationship between race and racial colorblindness. More specifically, it was found that the greater the SRH of the white participants, the less they embraced a colorblind ideology. Conversely, the greater the SRH of the non-white participants, the greater their colorblind racial attitudes. These results suggest that stronger SRH may reduce colorblindness among whites and intensify it among non-whites. The implications of the obtained results may be useful in addressing how surmount barriers to data collection, measurements, and research related to racial and ethnic health disparities in "colorblind" Germany may contribute to health inequalities. Thus, this paper's contribution lies in tracking such disparities to aid their reduction or elimination.

Perceived threats from out-groups play a significant role in negative intergroup relations. The aim of our study was to explore what types of threats young Slovaks feel from three out-groups: immigrants from African and Arab countries, the Roma, and Slovak Hungarians. By conducting six focus groups (N = 42) with university students (M = 22), we identified several concerns about these out-groups. We found out that they can be categorized into four threat types in line with Stephan et al. (2009): (1) symbolic group threats, (2) symbolic individual threats, (3) realistic group threats, and (4) realistic individual threats. However, we identified threats which have not been identified in previous threat literature, e. g. language barrier, sexual harassment, and annoyance, or were not researched as threat, e. g. theft, abuse of social system, and lack of trust. Therefore, we aim to develop a new measure which allows researchers to focus on a broader scale of perceived threats in prejudice reduction. As we have explored different concerns posed by different out-groups, we argue that in prejudice reduction it is important to focus on those threats that are felt by the majority from a particular out- group, and not to perceive intergroup threat as one general factor.

Závěr: Historická zkušenost "Lebensborn" a s ní spojené další projekty rasové hygieny, včetně všech válečných zločinů spáchaných nacistickým režimem, jsou varováním všem lidem různé barvy pleti, různého náboženského vyznání, všech dalších odlišností. Kam až může vést nenávist vůči tomu, kdo je jiný než já. Je také varováním před tím, k jakým účelům věda může být využita a jakou praxi věda a vědecké teorie mohou ospravedlnit.
At the beginning of the last century, especially in Germany, the concept of racial policy, supported by the corresponding Nuremberg laws, developed. As a result of human losses on the battlefields of World War II, the so-called Lebensborn began to emerge, where children of purely Aryan lynx were born programmatically. Lebensborn was dotted almost all over Europe, including the Czech Republic. After the war, these children had great mental and social problems. Aim: The aim of the article was to process information about the LEBENSBORN experiment from Czech and foreign sources. Method: Analysis of documents and data was chosen for data collection. Results and discussion: Based on data collection and document analysis, facts from Germany, the Czech Republic and other countries were summarized. Conclusion: The historical experience of "Lebensborn" and its associated racial hygiene projects, including all war crimes committed by the Nazi regime, warn all people of different skin colors, religion and all other differences. As much as hatred can lead to who is different from me. It is also a warning against what purposes science can be used and what practice science and scientific theories can justify.

BACKGROUND: Racial bias is associated with suboptimal healthcare treatment for minorities. Research focuses on bias among physicians rather than non-physician healthcare staff (e.g., receptionists). Patients spend considerable amounts of time with non-physician staff. Therefore, we investigate differences in implicit and explicit racial bias by healthcare staff race and occupation using the Implicit Association Test and Modern Racism Scale, respectively. METHODS: Staff (n = 107) were recruited using the Alabama based Primary Care Research Coalition. Occupation was categorized into "medical doctors/registered nurses" (MD/RN) and "non-MD/RN" (e.g., receptionists). RESULTS: Implicit bias scores were higher among whites compared with blacks (0.62, -0.04, respectively; p < 0.01). Among whites, non-MD/RNs demonstrated more pro-white implicit bias compared with MD/RNs (0.67, 0.44, respectively; p < 0.01). Whites had higher explicit bias scores than blacks (17.7, 12.3, respectively; p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Non-MD/RNs should not be overlooked for cultural competency training, and efforts are needed to reduce racial bias among healthcare workers identified as having higher levels of bias.

Byly testovány dvě hypotézy: (1) Liberální i konzervativní jedinci budou mít předsudečné postoje ke skupinám vyžadujícím solidaritu. Konzervativní jedinci budou zastávat názor, že by stát těmto skupinám neměl poskytovat pomoc, a jejich příslušníkům budou připisovat atributy, které odmítavé chování státu legitimizují. Liberální jedinci budou mít opačné názory. (2) Autoritářští i anarchističtí jedinci budou mít předsudečné postoje ke skupinám představujícím hrozbu. Autoritářští jedinci budou pokládat příslušníky těchto skupin za nebezpečné a budou odmítat jejich požadavky, které by vedly ke změně statu quo. Anarchističtí jedinci budou inklinovat k opačným názorům. Soubor a podmínky. Soubor dospělých respondentů (N = 184) vyplnil škály zobecněné předsudečnosti, autoritářství a konzervatismu. Jedna škála zobecněné předsudečnosti (solidarita) měřila postoje k narkomanům, bezdomovcům a k handicapovaným lidem, druhá škála (hrozba) postoje k imigrantům, Romům a homosexuálně orientovaným jedincům.
Objectives. The study presents an original theory of generalized prejudice. Generalized prejudice is defined as a coherent system of prejudicial attitudes towards groups that share a common core of stereotypes. This is either that they require solidarity or that they pose a threat. Hypotheses. (1) Both liberal and conservative individuals will have prejudicial attitudes towards groups requiring solidarity. Conservatives will be of the opinion that the state should not provide assistance to these groups because they do not deserve it (e.g., they are lazy). Liberals will have opposing views. (2) Both authoritarians and anarchists will have prejudicial attitudes towards groups posing a threat to society. Authoritarian individuals will regard the members of these groups as dangerous and will reject their demands that would lead to a change of status quo. Anarchist individuals will tend to the contrary. Sample and settings. A sample of adult respondents (N = 184) filled two scales of generalized prejudice, a scale of authoritarianism and a scale of conservatism. One scale of generalized prejudice (solidarity) measured attitudes towards drug addicts, homeless people and disabled people, the second scale (threat) measured attitudes towards immigrants, Roma people and gay men. Statistical analyses. Data were submitted to principal component analyses and to two sets of hierarchical regression analyses. Results. The results show that attitudes towards these set of groups are coherent. As expected the only significant predictor of the first scale of generalized prejudice (solidarity) was the scale of conservatism and the only significant predictor of the second scale of generalized prejudice (threat to society) was the scale of authoritarianism. Study limitation. The size of the research sample sets limits to the generalizability of results.
