This study was a comparison between Ru-catalysts and similar, previously investigated, Pt-catalysts. In this paper, ruthenium catalysts for catalytic wet air oxidation are prepared, characterized and tested. Both catalysts were supported on commercial CeO2 as well as mixed oxide Zr(0.1)(Ce(0.75)Pr(0.25))(0.9)O2. The catalysts were characterized by measuring the oxygen storage capacities (OSC), BET, XRD, FTIR and chemisorption of hydrogen. In addition, the effect of sintering (treatments under H2) was compared with both of the catalysts. The comparison of the results showed that initial intrinsic activity of ruthenium is not significantly influenced by the type of the support, which is contrast to platinum. Furthermore, the particle size of Ru had an important effect on CWAO activity: the higher the particle size, the better the activity. This was different with Pt-catalysts, where the optimal particle size was smaller, having about 15% of metal dispersion.

Kazuistika pojednává o neobvyklé etiologii purulentní mediastinitidy vzniklé na základě bakteriální infekce sternoklavikulárního kloubu. Popisuje úspěšné chirurgické řešení v rozsahu drenáže mezihrudí i nutné horní plicní lobektomie pro plicní absces při pozdním stanovení diagnózy. Autoři diskutují o úskalích včasné diagnostiky a možnostech léčby.
This case report is about unusual etiology of purulent mediastinitis which was caused by bacterial infection of sterno-clavicular joint. This report describes surgical solution by drainage of mediastinum and necessary upper lung lobectomy due to lung abscess which was lately diagnosed. Authors discuss the problem of early diagnosis and cure possibilities

[Castleman's disease mimicking the pericardial tumor]
Kazuistika popisuje případ pacientky s patologickou rezistencí v mediastinu, imitující nádor vycházející z oblasti perikardu. Pro nejasný histologický charakter a chování při recidivujícím fluidothoraxu byl nádor indikovaný k radikálnímu operačnímu řešení. Při prvním čtení se histologicky jevil jako thymom, při druhém čtení byla vyslovena diagózavzácná Castlemanova choroba.
The case report describes a case of a female patient with the pathologic mass in her mediastinum mimicking the tumor originating from the pericardial area. Due to the unclear histology finding and manifestation during recurrent fluidothorax the tumor was indicated to the radical surgical removal. The histology was considered the thymoma in the first reading, and the rare Castleman's disease was diagnosed based on the second reading.
