This article focuses on the perceptions of parenting among people with hearing impairment. It presents a comprehensive analysis conducted from three different per- spectives: those with hearing impairment who do not have children, those who do have children, and the hearing children of persons with hearing impairment. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data. The quantitative part of the research involved Q-methodology and a self-constructed questionnaire. In contrast, the qualitative part focused on conducting focus groups and semi-structured interviews with the focus groups. The study was conducted in three phases with a total of 49 respondents. The first phase involved quantitative research among 36 childless people with hearing impairment. The second phase included focus groups with eight deaf and hard-of-hearing parents. The third phase focused on individual interviews with five women who are CODAs (children of deaf parents.) The research findings suggest that parenting of persons with hearing impairment is influenced by a wide range of factors, including motivation to parent, differences in perspectives on parenting between men and women, parenting styles, degree of hearing impairment, and limitations and risks associated with the impairment.
The importance of the foot in the life of the visually impaired is unimaginable. People with visual impairment are a potentially weakened target group regarding the genesis of various orthopedic problems as well as morphological and structural foot deformities. The foot has an important functional relation within the lower limb and body. The paper shows importance of the health state of the foot in their life and describes the foot as an important potential therapeutic tool for maintaining or improving the quality of life. Maintaining a healthy foot in this population should be a significant need. A lot of studies are solving the foot on foot-based interfaces that stimulate the surface of the foot with vibrations. It could be used in several fields such as sensory substitution virtual reality, rehabilitation and among others.
The purpose of this study was to identify any differences in the dignity evaluation of geriatric inpatients after 1 month of hospitalization in a long-term care wards (LTC) and predictors of this change. This follow-up study included 125 geriatric inpatients who filled the Patient Dignity Inventory (PDI-CZ), Geriatric Depression Scale, Barthel Index, and Mini-Mental State Examination. In the initial measurement, the patients rated of PDI-CZ item "Not able to perform tasks of daily living" the worst. One month after, the items "Not able to perform tasks of daily living," "Not able to attend to bodily functions," and "Not feeling worthwhile or valued" were improved. Patients with higher education, for whom self-sufficiency improved and depression decreased, rated their dignity more positively 1 month after the hospitalization in LTC. Our findings suggest that these factors are important for the maintenance of the dignity of older adults hospitalized in LTC.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluates the effect of a 3-month calorie restriction (CR) without snacking on the anthropometric parameters, Homeostatic Model Assesment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), and lipid profiles of female office workers with overweight or obesity, whose physical activity was limited during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty-eight women aged 20-38 years (28.9±5.24) with low physical activity levels were divided into a non-snacking (NS) group (N = 21) and a snacking (S) group (N = 27) prior to the dietary intervention. Their daily energy intake during the intervention was lowered by 30% compared with the baseline level, and the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids and fiber in their diet was increased (to >30 g/day). The proportion of saturated fatty acids and simple carbohydrates was also reduced. The study participants were assessed at the baseline and post-intervention for anthropometric variables (body weight, body fat percentage BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio) and the concentrations of insulin, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Moreover, the values for HOMA-IR, the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), and the ratios of TC/HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, and LDL-C/HDL-C were calculated. RESULTS: All anthropometric parameter values obtained post-intervention were lower than the baseline in both groups. The serum insulin concentration and HOMA-IR decreased respectively by an average of 6% and 25% in the NS group and 37% and 45% in the S group. The lipid profiles of all participants improved significantly, with the LDL-C concentration showing a more promising trend in the S group (decrease by 27%) than in the NS group (17%). CONCLUSIONS: The study showed that CR improved the anthropometric parameters, HOMA-IR index, and lipid profiles of all participants. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2022;35(6):693-706.

The current Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has shown us that the pharmaceutical research community can organize and administer large nonprofit clinical trials (RECOVERY and SOLIDARITY) and achieve the swift development of common, unpatentable drugs for a new indication: in this case an old, inexpensive drug, dexamethasone, for COVID-19. Why is it that such nonprofit efforts are so rare and are not organized as a systemic, routine part of drug development in the public interest? Based on my own experience with repurposing the alcohol-abuse drug disulfiram (Antabuse) for cancer, I identify at least four serious deadlocks to development of nonprofit drugs. All of these obstacles should be addressed to leverage the potential of the COVID-19 pandemic for better future healthcare systems in all countries around the world.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Disease progression in children with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is variable. Prognostic and risk-stratification tools exist for adult-onset PSC, but not for children. We aimed to create a tool that accounts for the biochemical and phenotypic features and early disease stage of pediatric PSC. APPROACH AND RESULTS: We used retrospective data from the Pediatric PSC Consortium. The training cohort contained 1,012 patients from 40 centers. We generated a multivariate risk index (Sclerosing Cholangitis Outcomes in Pediatrics [SCOPE] index) that contained total bilirubin, albumin, platelet count, gamma glutamyltransferase, and cholangiography to predict a primary outcome of liver transplantation or death (TD) and a broader secondary outcome that included portal hypertensive, biliary, and cancer complications termed hepatobiliary complications (HBCs). The model stratified patients as low, medium, or high risk based on progression to TD at rates of <1%, 3%, and 9% annually and to HBCs at rates of 2%, 6%, and 13% annually, respectively (P < 0.001). C-statistics to discriminate outcomes at 1 and 5 years were 0.95 and 0.82 for TD and 0.80 and 0.76 for HBCs, respectively. Baseline hepatic fibrosis stage was worse with increasing risk score, with extensive fibrosis in 8% of the lowest versus 100% with the highest risk index (P < 0.001). The model was validated in 240 children from 11 additional centers and performed well. CONCLUSIONS: The SCOPE index is a pediatric-specific prognostic tool for PSC. It uses routinely obtained, objective data to predict a complicated clinical course. It correlates strongly with biopsy-proven liver fibrosis. SCOPE can be used with families for shared decision making on clinical care based on a patient's individual risk, and to account for variable disease progression when designing future clinical trials.

The contribution presents a literary review of the facts about the risk of falls in association with visual and hearing impairments from current studies. Fall is the potential risk for persons with visual and hearing impairments, regardless of age. Stability is influenced by integration and evaluation of visual, vestibular, and somatosensory information. Visually and hearing-impaired people are a potentially weakened target group regarding the disturbed keeping of the postural stability, posture, and balance. The aim of the contribution is to summarize studies that show experiences with problem of falls among individuals with sensory loss.
Introduction In radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer (HNC), dental morbidity is significant and it may result in loss of the dentition following treatment.Aims The aim of this clinical study is to identify the incidence of tooth loss over time and correlate this to the RT dose and various risk factors in patients with HNC treated with radical RT.Design A retrospective observational study.Materials and methods The records of 1,118 patients with HNC treated with radical or adjuvant RT from January 2010 to December 2019 were analysed. After applying strict inclusion criteria, 78 patients with 1,566 individual tooth data were selected. RT dose mapping was performed for each tooth. Results A total of 253 teeth (16.2%) were extracted. The following risk factors were significant: gender (p = 0.0001), xerostomia (p <0.0001), RT dose (p <0.0001) and smoking (p <0.0001). Non-significant factors were age, RT delivery technique and the addition of cisplatin. Conclusion Detailed RT dose mapping was used to identify RT dose as a risk factor for dental loss. Careful pre-RT dental treatment and minimisation of RT dose to teeth and salivary glands is required to prevent or reduce the loss of dentition.

The overview essay presents a narrative literary review of the facts about the motor skills in association with visual impairments in children from current studies. This contribution presents various knowledge and selected research surveys in issue. Motor skills and motor development in children with visual impairment is expected to be different from that in typically developing children in many ways. The aim of the contribution is to summarize appropriate end essential studies that show experiences with problem of motor skills, in a broader context, in child individuals with sensory loss.
The is contribution deals with diff erences and similarities in perceiving drama-therapy in patients with neurotic disorder in the context of psychiatric treatment. The first goal ascertains if there are diff erences in assessment of dramatherapy according to the membership of dynamic or cognitive-behavioural group. The second goal ascertains diff erences during the fi rst therapeutic session. Th e research assemblage was created by 57 patients from dynamic and cognitive-behavioural (KBT) groups from two mental hospitals in the Czech Republic. Data were gained by two-factor semantic diff erential and they were statistically assessed by a t-test (and further amended by qualitative group interviews). Conclusions have shown that the membership of patients of dynamic or KBT group has not an impact on their assessment of dramatherapeutic process.
