Výsledky ukazují spojitost mezi kouřením adolescentů a charakteristikou (spolu)žáků (sociální, ekonomický status, neúplná rodina, rodina cizinců, vzdělání apod.). Zřejmá je souvislost mezi kouřením a typem školy (velikost tříd, preventivní programy, řešení problémových situací, mimoškolní aktivity atd.). Je možné identifikovat rizikové kategorie žáků škol a zacílit prevenci k sociálně a vzdělanostně slabším skupinám populace, věkové kategorii 13letých (eliminace experimentování s kouřením) a 15letých (rozšíření povědomí zdravotních rizik kouření).
The prevalence of tobacco smoking is a serious issue among adolescents with major implications in healthcare but also in socioeconomic and demographic sphere. The object of case study is to specify the relationship of elementary school pupils to smoking tobacco based on various factors (age, gender, type of school, geographical location, size of residence, social status, etc.). A questionnaire is analysis tool research sample consists of 628 students. In the study, almost 40% of pupils aged 13 years and 85% of pupils aged 15 confirmed experience with smoking, the differences between boys and girls are not significant. One in six aged 15 smokes at least once a week, irrespective of gender. Boys (especially aged 15) outweigh at the everyday smoking. The results indicate a link between smoking adolescents and pupil's characteristics (social, economic status, single parent family, the family of foreigners, education, etc.). The link between smoking and type of school (class size, preventive programs, problem solving, after-school activities etc.) is obvious. It is possible to identify risk categories of pupils of schools and to target prevention to socially and educationally disadvantaged groups of the population, to the age group 13 year (elimination of experimenting with smoking) and to 15 year (greater awareness of health risks of smoking).

The article focuses on the effi cient use of time in providing high quality physical education in schools. We explore the research base identifying eff ective physical education teaching in schools, in terms of academic learning time and other time-related variables in physical education lessons. We compare students' activity levels in two types of physical education sessions which diff er with regards to lesson content (technical lessons and games lessons), and to the educational level in which the sessions are given (three stages of elementary education and high school education). A total of 112 lessons involving ten class groups and 255 elementary and high school students were observed using the Placheck method (Siedentop & Tannehill, 2000). T tests were used to compare the academic learning time engagement levels of technical classes with physical education games classes. In the technical lessons, the students were active 45.6% of the time during the session, while in the games lessons the students were active 53.2% of the time. This difference is signifi cant (p=0.002). These diff erences were not signifi cant in the sessions taught in the fi rst and second stages of elementary education. We conclude that scope for students to play a lead role in the physical education session is a determining factor in their activity level during the fi nal stage of elementary education and in high school education. It is therefore recommended that physical educators periodically re-examine not only teaching behaviours, class structures and teaching formats, but also the types of activities they include, in order to provide eff ective teaching and learning environments for their students.
