The paper presents the application of the human motion analysis systems in the criminology, in the fi eld of identifi cation of people according to the motion patterns, gait parameters. Human motion Analysis Laboratory at the Technical University of Košice has experience with video capturing system SMART with 6 cameras. It enables to evaluate human gait with relatively high precision. Th e main aim is to estimate and assess movement, abilities and changes in case of any pathology in clinical fi eld, e.g. rehabilitation, gait analysis utilisation, stability disorders and in sports medicine. One of new emerging application is motion analysis in criminology – especially in the fi eld of biometric identifi cation of people. Th is method seems to have lots of advantages as contact free design, unobtrusive and comfort, in comparison with the commonly used methods of identifi cation (e.g. fi ngerprints, hand geometry, palm prints, retina and iris scans).

The paper presents an overview of the systems used for human motion analysis and a brief description of their application. We use optical motion capture system SMART from e-Motion, BTS based on detection of small passive refl ex markers, to analyze subjects' movements in our studies. Th e aim is to estimate and assess movement, abilities in pathological cases evaluated in clinical fi eld, e.g. rehabilitation, gait analysis utilisation, stability disorders and also in sports medicine. Th e application of the system SMART is set to laboratory conditions for recording exercises, monitoring of performance, evaluation of motion abilities, development of individual skills, training of correct and/or optimal trajectories and to ensure the feedback. Th is exact approach is more precise than commonly applied methods based on subjective visual analysis and brings objectivization and quantifi cation of human motion that is very signifi cant also in sports and sport medicine.

Modern information and communication technologies applied in the services provided for elderly people and people with disabilities (target group). My work consists of the state-of-the-art of this area and also deals with a planning of activities in the process of development of these modern services. Th ese services are based on the technologies respecting the principles of an ambient intelligence environment with regard to end users’ needs (special needs of people from target group). In this work I introduced modern ambient intelligence technologies that are available and accessible in Slovakia. All the mentioned technologies will become an equipment of the Ambient intelligence laboratory at Technical university of Košice, where they will be used and tested by elderly people and people with diff erent types of disabilities. One part of the work focuses on the defi nition of the main aims for services development in Slovakia in the connection to research project of the 6th frame programme of European commission project MonAMI (Mainstreaming on AMbient Intelligence) within the e-Inclusion.
