The soil microbiota exhibits an important function in the ecosystem, and its response to climate change is of paramount importance for sustainable agroecosystems. The macronutrients, micronutrients, and additional constituents vital for the growth of plants are cycled biogeochemically under the regulation of the soil microbiome. Identifying and forecasting the effect of climate change on soil microbiomes and ecosystem services is the need of the hour to address one of the biggest global challenges of the present time. The impact of climate change on the structure and function of the soil microbiota is a major concern, explained by one or more sustainability factors around resilience, reluctance, and rework. However, the past research has revealed that microbial interventions have the potential to regenerate soils and improve crop resilience to climate change factors. The methods used therein include using soil microbes' innate capacity for carbon sequestration, rhizomediation, bio-fertilization, enzyme-mediated breakdown, phyto-stimulation, biocontrol of plant pathogens, antibiosis, inducing the antioxidative defense pathways, induced systemic resistance response (ISR), and releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the host plant. Microbial phytohormones have a major role in altering root shape in response to exposure to drought, salt, severe temperatures, and heavy metal toxicity and also have an impact on the metabolism of endogenous growth regulators in plant tissue. However, shelf life due to the short lifespan and storage time of microbial formulations is still a major challenge, and efforts should be made to evaluate their effectiveness in crop growth based on climate change. This review focuses on the influence of climate change on soil physico-chemical status, climate change adaptation by the soil microbiome, and its future implications.
Výsledky: Na vstupním i výstupním povrchu filtrů převažovaly bakterie rodu Bacillus – Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus flexus. Identifikovány byli také bakterie rodů Staphylococcus, Brevibacillus, Peribacillus a Paenibacillus. Kvantifikace ukázala nízkou kontaminaci výstupních povrchů filtrů 1 a 2. Kontaminace vstupní a výstupní strany filtrů 3, 4 a 5 a odhalila téměř stejnou kontaminaci vstupních a výstupních ploch. Závěry: Podle nalezených výsledků doporučujeme buď častější výměnu filtrů, nebo volbu filtrů s nižší porozitou.
The use of HVAC in urban buses in developed countries increases the comfort and indoor air quality in the means of ground transportation. The microbial contamination was studied on outlet and inlet surfaces of 5 air filters removed from the urban buses HVAC during regular maintenance. To acquire samples from both the outlet and the inlet sides of the filters, dry swabbing technique was used. Cultivation was performed on different selective or selective-diagnostic agars, to cultivate viable bacteria. To identify the bacterial species, Gram stain and immerse microscopy was used. Selected colonies underwent the proteomic study (MALDI-TOF) as well. After identification, bacteria were quantified. The bacteria of the genus Bacillus – Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus flexus prevailed on both inlet and outlet surfaces of the filters. The members of genera Staphylococcus, Brevibacillus, Peribacillus or Paenibacillus were also identified. The quantification of colony forming units showed low contamination of the outlet surfaces of filters 1 and 2. The contamination of inlet and outlet sides of filters 3, 4, and 5 was comparable, revealed nearly the same contamination of inlet and outlet surfaces. In the case of filters 3, 4 and 5 we recommend more frequent filter changing or more efficient filter choice.
Tree pollen allergy presents an increasing problem in industrialized countries. This disease develops in sensitised people after inhalation of pollen grains of birch and other related trees. Clinical symptoms of tree pollen allergy (seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, seasonal asthma bronchiale and secondary pollen food syndrome) have significant negative impact on the quality of life in these patients. The purpose of this review is to touch the taxonomy of the trees, describe cross-reactivity of relevant allergens, prevalence, the influence of climatic changes and to stress the importance of allergen immunotherapy as a disease modifying treatment.

Klimatické změny vedou v posledních letech k prodloužení pylové sezóny, respektive k jejímu časnějšímu začátku. Mobilní aplikace umožnují dnes pacientům monitorovat aktuální pylovou situaci, zaznamenávat vlastní klinické obtíže a lépe dodržovat compliance k léčbě. Klinické projevy pylové alergie zahrnují nejčastěji alergickou rhinokonjunktivitidu. V příspěvku zmiňuji zásady symptomatické farmakoterapie alergické rýmy a kauzální léčbu - specifickou alergenovou imunoterapii.
Pollen season lasts longer because of its earlier start due to recent climate changes. Mobile apps enable pollen monitoring, help patients describe their clinical symptoms, and improve compliance with therapy. Allergic rhinoconjunctivitis is the most frequent clinical symptom. This paper provides info about symptomatic pharmacotherapy as well as about causal treatment- about specific allergen immunotherapy.

Phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) are the principal vectors of Leishmania spp. (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae) worldwide. The subgenus Adlerius is taxonomically challenging and currently comprises about 20 species with a wide geographic distribution from eastern Asia to southeastern Europe. Some species are confirmed or suspected vectors of Leishmania donovani/infantum, L. major, and L. tropica, and are thus of high medical and veterinary relevance. A single record of Phlebotomus (Adlerius) simici in Austria from 2018 marks its sporadic northernmost and westernmost occurrence, with the origin of its appearance remaining unclear. To better understand Adlerius diversification and particularly post-glacial spread of Ph. simici to northern parts of Europe, we combined phylogenetic analyses with climatic suitability modelling. Divergence time estimates well supported the currently observed geographic distribution of the studied species and revealed several taxonomic challenges in the subgenus. We clearly delineated three distinct genetic and geographic Ph. simici lineages and phylogeographically assessed diversification that were well supported by climatic models. This study provides a comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the subgenus Adlerius, enhancing our understanding of the diversification in relation to changing climate of this understudied group, and we present new insights into the post-glacial spread of Ph. simici, a suspected vector of L. infantum.

The impacts of climate change on human health are often underestimated or perceived to be in a distant future. Here, we present the projected impacts of climate change in the context of COVID-19, a recent human health catastrophe. We compared projected heat mortality with COVID-19 deaths in 38 cities worldwide and found that in half of these cities, heat-related deaths could exceed annual COVID-19 deaths in less than ten years (at + 3.0 °C increase in global warming relative to preindustrial). In seven of these cities, heat mortality could exceed COVID-19 deaths in less than five years. Our results underscore the crucial need for climate action and for the integration of climate change into public health discourse and policy.

The increase in extreme climate events associated with global warming is a great menace to crop productivity nowadays. In addition to abiotic stresses, warmer conditions favor the spread of infectious diseases affecting plant performance. Within this context, beneficial microbes constitute a sustainable alternative for the mitigation of the effects of climate change on plant growth and productivity. Used as biostimulants to improve plant growth, they also increase plant resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses through the generation of a primed status in the plant, leading to a better and faster response to stress. In this review, we have focused on the importance of a balanced redox status for the adequate performance of the plant and revisited the different antioxidant mechanisms supporting the biocontrol effect of beneficial microbes through the adjustment of the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In addition, the different tools for the analysis of antioxidant responses and redox regulation have been evaluated. The importance of redox regulation in the activation of the immune responses through different mechanisms, such as transcriptional regulation, retrograde signaling, and post-translational modification of proteins, emerges as an important research goal for understanding the biocontrol activity of the beneficial microbes.

At the end of March 2024 in Borovany in South Bohemia in a garden pond in the vicinity of a private house a number of larvae (15 individuals per dm3) and some pupae were found which were later, based on hatched imagery, identified as the invasive mosquito species Aedes koreicus. Given the early finding of larvae, their number and age, we can conclude that this is the first record of the invasive genus Aedes overwintering in our area.

BACKGROUND: The minimum mortality temperature (MMT) or MMT percentile (MMTP) is an indicator of population susceptibility to nonoptimum temperatures. MMT and MMTP change over time; however, the changing directions show region-wide heterogeneity. We examined the heterogeneity of temporal changes in MMT and MMTP across multiple communities and in multiple countries. METHODS: Daily time-series data for mortality and ambient mean temperature for 699 communities in 34 countries spanning 1986-2015 were analyzed using a two-stage meta-analysis. First, a quasi-Poisson regression was employed to estimate MMT and MMTP for each community during the designated subperiods. Second, we pooled the community-specific temporally varying estimates using mixed-effects meta-regressions to examine temporal changes in MMT and MMTP in the entire study population, as well as by climate zone, geographical region, and country. RESULTS: Temporal increases in MMT and MMTP from 19.5 °C (17.9, 21.1) to 20.3 °C (18.5, 22.0) and from the 74.5 (68.3, 80.6) to 75.0 (71.0, 78.9) percentiles in the entire population were found, respectively. Temporal change was significantly heterogeneous across geographical regions (P < 0.001). Temporal increases in MMT were observed in East Asia (linear slope [LS] = 0.91, P = 0.02) and South-East Asia (LS = 0.62, P = 0.05), whereas a temporal decrease in MMT was observed in South Europe (LS = -0.46, P = 0.05). MMTP decreased temporally in North Europe (LS = -3.45, P = 0.02) and South Europe (LS = -2.86, P = 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The temporal change in MMT or MMTP was largely heterogeneous. Population susceptibility in terms of optimum temperature may have changed under a warming climate, albeit with large region-dependent variations.
