Cytology is an essential part of gynaecologic diagnosis. This bilingual atlas shows typical cellular pictures of the most important pathologic conditions. The malignant and premalignant lesions of the squamous epithelium with their inflammatory, degenerative and regenerative alterations, as well as the increasingly important changes of the glandular epithelium are described. Each colour picture is combined with an explanatory schematic drawing for identification of single cells or cell elements. This bilingual edition is based on the latest developments in gynaecologic cytology - text and references are completely revised, several figures have been exchanged or supplemented for better explanations, and the new chapter on papilloma virus infection of the female genitals has been added. However, the proven systematic structure and didactic principle have not been changed. This bilingual edition has the advantage of giving the English terminology next to the correct German nomenclature, thus alleviating the interpretation of international reports and literature.
Autor referuje o peroperačních cytologických vyšetřeních 236 pneumomediastinálních procesů a 251 mamámích lézí. Materiál získával z peroperační tenkojehlové aspirační cytologie nebo seškrabem patologického ložiska. u pneumomediastinálních procesů byly spolehlivě diagnostikovány karcinomy, chondrohamartomy a polymorfocelulární sarkomy. Mezenchymální tumory o nízkém stupni malignity neumožnily stanovení biologické povahy procesu, jejich identifikace si vyžádala histologické hodnocení. Exprese cytokeratinů umožnila cytologickou i histologickou identifikaci rozsáhlé hyperplazie bronchioloalveolárního epitelu v souvislosti se záněty i na okraji čepů primárních a sekundárních maligních nádorů. U mamárních lézí bylo peroperačně ověřeno 38 fibroadenomů a 110 fibrózních a fibroepiteliálních dysplazií. Z 97 mamámích karcinomů byla malignita stanovena u 94, určení povahy dalších 3 bylo ponecháno na histologii, Peroperační cytologické mamami vyšetření je vhodné po pečlivém makroskopickém prostudování exstirpátu zejména u malých karcinomů a karcinomů sdružených s rozsáhlou fibrózou. Peroperační cytologie poskytla zpravidla pohotovou informaci o povaze vyšetřovaného procesu, nutnou pro vymezení rozsahu chimrgického zákroku, další potřebné informace podalo až histologické vyšetření.
Author performed intraoperative cytology of 236 pneumomediastinal processes, 251 mammary and 45 other focal lesions. He used fine needle asperation or scraping of pathological tissue and hematoxylin-eosin staining of smears. Diagnosis of pulmomediastinal processes was reliable in carcinomas, chondrohartomas, and polymorphocellular sarcomas. Unreliability as to biological behaviour was found in identification of low grade malignant mesenchymal tumours which needed histology. Cytokeratin expression verified the diagnosis of thymoma from routine staining and enabled cytological and histological identification of extensivé bronchioloalveolar epithelial hyperplasia associated with specific and unspecific infiammations or marginally with primary as well as secondary epithelial and mesenchymal malignant tumours and melanomas. Intraoperative cytology of mammary lesions succeeded in identification of nonmalignant processes and of 94 from 97 carcinomas (remaining 3 having been left for histology). As a rule, intraoperative cytology yielded a prompt information about investigated process nature which was necessary for defining the extent of surgery, further information was completed by histology.
